bell biv devoe - poison chorus lifted from whom?

I went record shopping with a friend a few years ago and he bought a reggae 7" from the 1970's (i think). Imagine our suprise when we listened to it and the chorus was identical to Poison by Bell Biv Devoe! Can anyone out there identify the song and artist?

Apparently in the same store we found something similar with Informer by Snow. Although for some reason I haven't had quite the same desire to track that song down.
