Name My College Radio Show

I'm starting a new college radio show on Saturday, but I haven't been able to come up with a good name. I'm going to play old and new psychedelic pop, rock, and folk. I thought about calling it "Naturally Stoned" after the song of the same title by the Avant-Garde. But it turns out that that is also the name of a reality show about Chuck Woolery on the Game Show Network.

Anybody have any good ideas?

So far I really like Workmanlike Chops and Fifth Dimension. Although I might change the latter into The Nth Dimension.

Friend of mine had a great show called The Meatlocker, so don't use that. How about "Smug 'n' Hungry"?

if i had a radio show, i would call it something like "flounder up my moustache, baby". just so i could say "you're listening to flounder up my moustache, baby.on W.A.S.S."

Christopher Costello (CGC), Thursday, 6 July 2006 23:53 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm. I like "Rosetta Stoned" quite a bit. Most of the rest would make great college radio show names, but not for the show I'm doing this time. I'm looking for something very hippie-dippie. I'd call it "Gathering in the Mushrooms", but that's already the name of a compilation.

I've also thought about "Technicolor Ocean". Or maybe "Tales from the Technicolor Ocean" for a Yes reference.

Ed Corcoran (ecorcoran), Friday, 7 July 2006 00:06 (nineteen years ago)

why don't you call it "i reference prog-rock"

lf (lfam), Friday, 7 July 2006 00:23 (nineteen years ago)

huh?

lf (lfam), Friday, 7 July 2006 00:24 (nineteen years ago)

i think that college radio shows should have names that are interesting on their own and bear no (or little) relation to the concept of the show.

"Now is the winter of our discotheque" (champs reference)
"That All May Freely Serve"
"The Future"

those were mine

lf (lfam), Friday, 7 July 2006 00:25 (nineteen years ago)

and "Badlands"

lf (lfam), Friday, 7 July 2006 00:27 (nineteen years ago)

which is a reference to the awesome movie of the same name

lf (lfam), Friday, 7 July 2006 00:27 (nineteen years ago)

I disagree. I like the name of the show to reflect its contents. My previous show was called Ugly Music for Beautiful People, and I played noise/free jazz/drone/etc. One of my favorite shows on the radio station I work at is called Mystery Train and is blues/rockabilly/proto-rock/deep soul.

i still host a show on my old college station. it's called life on mars, and i started out playing punk (stooges up til NOFX), then switched to insufferably indie, and now play both those things plus electronic and metal and hip hop and folk music and whatever i want. it's still called life on mars.

ps: i always wanted to call my show shameless self promotion, which is also what this post was all about.

I decided to call my show "Just Another Diamond Day" and use "Diamond Day" by Vashti Bunyan as the theme song.

Here's the first half of the first show, if anyone is interested.

the college station here has a show called 'pipe dreams'
so i guess you can't use that one, either

i always thought it was witty, if a bit obvious

cate flamingo (cate flamingo), Monday, 10 July 2006 05:43 (nineteen years ago)

and before some kj dj has the chance to say it first: 'pipe dreams' IS more of an electronica show, as opposed to a psychedelia show (there is obviously a certain amount of common ground though)
