They were a feature of the more groove orientated post-punk bands - Liquid Liquid, Konk, ACR, Material and the rest, but where have they been since? And do they sound any good?

The way you are using the term is not the only widespread sense of the term "dance music," nor am I convinced it's even the most common one.
Go to Cali, Colombia and tell Diego Gale he is no longer contemporary.

Many other types of music are conducive to dancing, after all - although imperfect genre names do save us from the sargasso of sub-genres...
But labels such as DFA, Eskimo, DC, Feedelity and Bear Funk are all over the bongo sound atm and I was wondering what its legacy is.
