The battle b/w of the post-Beat neo-Motown.

I say Fine Young Cannibals, who managed to recorded two near-great albums.

And you're wrong.

Lenny Koggins (Bimble...), Sunday, 9 July 2006 01:12 (nineteen years ago)

No, actually, I'd say he's right.

I would go ahead and call that first FYC album great, but that might just be me.

i owned the first FYC album, i liked it then, haven't listened to it in 18 years. General Public was pretty lame.

First 2 FYC albums are near perfect.

One time I heard someone try to do a pirate version of "She Drives Me Crazy" at a karoke bar. Whenever the line came up "She drives me crazy" he would also wag his fingers around his ear like to signfy the crazy symbol. I smashed his face in with a trash can.

I admit I haven't heard any FYC albums (but I do own a 7" by a band that preceded them with some members of FYC called The Akrylykz) but "She Drives Me Crazy" disgusts me to such an extent that I imagine FYC albums would be intolerable to listen to. There's my 2 cents.

General Public at least had a couple of good songs - "So Cool You're Hot" etc.

Lenny Koggins (Bimble...), Sunday, 9 July 2006 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

are we supposed to know more General Public songs than just "Tenderness"?

"Tenderness" is indeed great, but FYC wins by virtue of having multiple hits.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Sunday, 9 July 2006 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

That's a terrible argument. No one wins by merely "having hits"

Lenny Koggins (Bimble...), Sunday, 9 July 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

No, they win by virtue of having albums that you've actually HEARD!

(From my limited perspective, "Johnny Come Home" is better than any other song yet mentioned; so, FYC it is.)

Monty Von Byonga (Monty Von Byonga), Sunday, 9 July 2006 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

"Don't Look Back," "I'm Not The Man I Used To Be," and the "Suspicious Mind" cover crush anything on the first General Public album without much effort.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Sunday, 9 July 2006 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

"Tenderness" is certainly better than any FYC song.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Sunday, 9 July 2006 22:34 (nineteen years ago)

ARGH.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Sunday, 9 July 2006 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

i never knew that that one song, 'good thing', was by fyc. it has an obscure meaning to me i can't quite pin down.
