So, I don't know enough to actually want to destroy, but have been listening to much of this:

and this:

i love pat martino. get yourself some gabor szabo while yer at it. i'm a sucker for any and all 60's jazz/rock/folk ragas and/or mysticism though. even when it's badly done. which was often.

That Martino record is pretty fucking great. Other than that, the first thing that comes to mind is the recent fusion project Kif, which I still believe is totally underrated. Cellist & guitarist team up for bombastic but occassionally sublime eastern-influenced fusion.

miles has tabla and sitar on a bunch of his electric albums. off the top of my head they're on Live/Evil and On the Corner.

Coltrane has this awesome tune called 'India,' and if you want to go eastern europe, has has this other awesome one called 'ole.'

the first side of Mahavishnu John McClaughlin's "My Goals Beyond" has a few really nice droney, modal eastern tracks

i can't totally remember what this sounds like but Don Ellis Orchestra's "Electric Bath" has a song called "Turkish Bath" that has sitar and is said to have "a far, far-out East theme" and uses quarter tones

Dave Brubeck Jazz Impressions of Eurasia

John McLaughlin's "Shakti" albums are pretty ecstatic and charged up - or at least the first one is. Recorded live, it matches Mahavishnu Orchestra in energy if not volume.

Pretty much all good stuff here so far.
The Don Ellis album is one of the most ludicrous things I won. There's a woodwind section in "Turkish Bath" that makes me laugh out loud every time. This is a good thing.

Yusef Lateef's "Eastern Sounds" is a good, fairly laid back record, not as in your face as everything else in this thread.

On the fusion side, some of the stuff Hellborg/Lane/Selvaganesh did together is pretty nifty. Not sure what's best though, as I only own "Good people in times of evil". I kinda hate fusion in general, but this is good. I could see this hitting many people's "destroy" lists though, as it's very shreddy.

Anyhoo, my favorite out of everything mentioned so far is Ellington's Far East Suite.

For something from a rock background, you might want to give Embryo's "Steig Aus" a shot.

Most people who like Alice Coltrane are also very fond of the classic Pharoah Sanders stuff like Summun Umyun Bukmun, Black Unity, Karma etc, but I guess this is more African than Eastern?

I can't think of anything to destroy. Harrumph. Well, I really like the acoustic Shakti stuff, but I can't get into the electric "Remember Shakti" stuff at all. A friend of mine blames McLaughlin's electric guitar tone... he may be on to something.
