trees (treesessplode), Thursday, 13 July 2006 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

Breakdancing, early hip hop/electro, and sandy beaches go so well together.

San Diva Gyna (and a Masala DOsaNUT on the side) (donut), Thursday, 13 July 2006 05:02 (nineteen years ago)

Also, what do you mean by no Ibiza type stuff? I can think of plenty of amazing beachy dance tracks that aren't...uh...Ibizized.

trees (treesessplode), Thursday, 13 July 2006 05:03 (nineteen years ago)

thats what i want to hear "amazing beachy dance tracks that aren't...uh...Ibizized"

YES NORTH LEBANON.... like the map above (Near Batroun)

sim (simbo), Thursday, 13 July 2006 05:06 (nineteen years ago)

Aril Brikha- Aqua ('Setting Sun' is good too)
Abacus- Relic
Isolee- Bleu (Dixon edit would work too)
Minilogue- Girl from Botany Bay
Patrick Cowley- Sea Hunt
...and dare I say See Mi Yah remixes.

and more on the disco side:
Azoto- Exalt Exalt
Azoto- San Salvador
Boney M- Felicidad
Billy Ocean- Nights (Feel Like Getting Down)
Donna Summer- Our Love
Grace Jones- My Jamaican Guy (uh this is slower but sooo groovy)

and there are so many more that i can't list off the top of my head.

trees (treesessplode), Thursday, 13 July 2006 05:20 (nineteen years ago)

how does one get DJ gigs without having, like, a basic idea of their own repertoire? just curious.

baboon2004 (baboon2004), Thursday, 13 July 2006 11:29 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, sim, out of curiosity-- what are you doing in Lebanon?

My question to you, Alicia and Machibuse: why the hell would you want to play the beach on the beach? I mean it's sort of clever, but really-- it seems as absurd as putting a church on a beach. I mean, you have the beach! What the fuck more do you want?

trees (treesessplode), Thursday, 13 July 2006 15:53 (nineteen years ago)

Old, but timely:

electro on a beach

don't knock it til you try it

San Diva Gyna (and a Masala DOsaNUT on the side) (donut), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:02 (nineteen years ago)

cex on the beach ?

rentboy (rentboy), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:04 (nineteen years ago)

You misunderstand-- I don't mind music on a beach, but listening to an album of ambient beach noises on a beach makes no sense to me. It's like watching a movie about wild grasses in the middle of a field.

trees (treesessplode), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

DJ. Beach. Lebanon. Am I spotting something wrong here?

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

err, I was agreeing with Dan Selzer but I think the Environments record would be cool too if you mixed it with something else

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

Being a bit enlightened recently on the political situation *coughthanksnedcough*, maybe you should just bring a single copy of Black Sabbath's Master Of Reality and play both sides.

San Diva Gyna (and a Masala DOsaNUT on the side) (donut), Thursday, 13 July 2006 16:22 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, jon, but ambient nature-based soundscapes sound good almost under anything. Not to knock them-- I've been listening to a tape called "Electrifying Thunderstorms" in my car for the past week or so.
(Also, sorry-- I thought that you were referring to lf's OTM of the Environments collection)

I've been wondering about how this is going to be done? Given the situation at present. Do people party on the beach when the beach is a potential warzone? Hmmm..

trees (treesessplode), Thursday, 13 July 2006 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

BEAT MATCH THE OCEAN WITH YR RECORDS

boredoms - SEADRUM duhhhhh

Machibuse '80 (ex machina), Thursday, 13 July 2006 17:31 (nineteen years ago)

Anko Painting (Anko2), Friday, 14 July 2006 06:01 (nineteen years ago)

hey, anyone know if sim is okay? just occurred to me that it would be proper to check on his status.

trees (treesessplode), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

If he's in northern Lebanon like he indicated then he's better off than further south, but still.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 July 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

I was actually going to say something way back when but figured he knew what he was getting into...
