Someone Please Recommend Me Some Feral, Aggressive, Intelligent "Experimental Rock" a la This Heat

I was listening to "Drum's Not Dead" yesterday and was struck by how much it resembles, occasionally, This Heat's more rhythmic/aggressive stuff, right down to the chanted vocals (and the "having three people in the band"). So I dug out my This Heat records and listened to them again, and then realized that Liars aren't really in the same ballpark. It also made me crave more. More Heat! Or, failing that, more music that SOUNDS like This Heat. My thirst for This Heat is deep and wide, but my wallet, alas, is not. As someone who is (much) too poor to afford "Out of Cold Storage," what should I be looking for to tide me over until I am once again solvent?

It's true! The more I listen to it the more I buy it. Except, I own and have listened to everything Disco Inferno has ever released (with the exception of their remix for the Ecstacy of St. Theresa) dozens of times. Best band ever, but... I'm hoping for something I've never really listened to. Something that'll knock my socks on my ass, ideally.

It's not really rock at all, but Freddie Hubbard & Ilham Mimaroglu's Sing Me a Song of Songmy is a pretty fierce mix of jazz trumpet, string quartet, and tape manipulation.

Kontakt Mikrofon Orkest/Black Sheep/Red Balune - good, really bizarre psych-prog-punk from bands involving Geoff Leigh (ex Henry Cow).

Cardiacs - early Cardiacs fits pretty closely with TH's more prog-esque moments

Etron Fou Leloublan - French RIO band, led by drummer who sounds he plays on a toy set, and plays proto punk-jazz

Voigt/465!!! - great Australian band led by the above poster, w/krautrock, RIO, DIY

Massacre - maybe if This Heat were a power trio (tho Hayward's a way better drummer!)

Was gonna say The Work. A lot of Rock-in-Opposition/ReR type stuff comes close, but none will make it, which is what makes This Heat so special. The more avant post-punk stuff, the Pop Group, Glaxo Babies, Birthday Party, and some no wave Mars, that early Circle X ep may scratch those itches.

I think the Brise Glace comparison to This Heat comes from O'Rourke's use of tape-splicing in a way that sounds like Horizontal Hold. Which brings to mind the story of David Grubbs interviewing Charles Heyward about that song, asking if it was all spliced together, and Heyward just responded "no, we were that tight" or something.

volcano the bear is a lot like this heat in some ways. not really the rock parts, but the surreal, fey falsetto parts.

re: brise glace

i'm still not sure this heat is really feral either. but bg and th and others mentioned above always kinda stuck out as bands in a similar vein. tons of brain, yet serious commitment to rock (or at least loud banging/bashing) in some raw form, and maybe that is feral. goin savage on some level.

to me this heat can be pretty mellow too tho.

I came in here just to suggest The Fire Show, so yeah, totally thirded. I like Above the Volcano of Flowers a bit more than saint the fire show, but you're fine with either of those two (the s/t is a bit uneven but still by no means bad).
