Quick! Recommend Funkadelic tracks for my mix for a newbie

I'm attempting to convince a southern soul diehard that all Northern funk acts aren't EWF (who I love, but that's neither here nor there) - I've got a pretty good posse of Funkadelic tracks rounded up (Ohio Players are next), and I've got every record at my disposal (save the singles collection and best of) so everybody shout out which songs you think would convince / be enjoyed by this girl of the Cold Heat / Funky 16 Corners / Sharon Jones disposition.

I could never do a Funkadelic comp without "Maggot Brain" "Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow" or "I Got a Thing, You Got a Thing, Everybody's Got a Thing"

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

EWF = Earth Wind & Fire?

Quite.

Far, far too many for me to choose. But everything suggested so far is just fine. And the odd early Parliament(s) track like "Breakdown" or "Come In Out Of The Rain" would do nicely too. All of the funk & very little of the 'delic, ideal for someone who prefers the straighter stuff. (Like your gf, presumably.)

Incidentally, I've never heard of that "Funky 16 Corners" comp until now. But having read the Allmusic write-up, I know now that I simply MUST obtain one!

oh yeah man that thing's great! cold heat is another one along similar lines that i think i like even better.

I'd just like to second (Not Just) Knee Deep as absolutely essential. When she realizes she's listening to 15 minutes of Me, Myself, and I (the original version), she'll be an instand convert.

(Like your gf, presumably.)

...but of course, you never used the word "girlfriend" at all, did you? That was just me and my imagination. How embarrassing...Sorry if I offended. [slinks away]

Hahahahahaha....

Very funny. (If only you knew, he thinks). This is keeping me entertained as I slough away at the article I'm working on...

On the other hand, if you're free tonight... ;o)
