Guardian Culture Vulture on how to get up the charts. This James Morrison guy (who I know nothing about and haven't heard) is number 5, this is how the Caroline Sullivan says he got there.

I guess this works for Corine Bailey Rae etc etc.

Why are people still surprised that techniques like these work when the KLF's guide to having a hit is still floating around the web?

It's a bit simplistic, isn't it? Get on Radio 2, perform on 'Later with Jools Holland'...like these are easy things to organise.
Getting James Morrisson to the point he's at now takes an inordinate amount of work from a marketing team, promotions managers, publicists, and a live goat sacrifice every full moon to James Morrisson's most important audience: the hoary host of the netherworlds, Lucifer himself.

This was the world's stupidest article surely: i.e. 'most records you hear about will be by people signed to a major labels who promote them!'. What it can't explain is why sometimes this programme works and sometimes it doesn't!

Yeah, but the Arctic Monkeys and Lily Allen did all this through SHEER FORCE OF WILL LONG LIVE THE INDIE.

I think the 'looking like Chris Martin' thing is key in this particular case.
