fuzzed-up, distorted crunky synths like someone took the acid squelch from aaliyah's 'try again' and streeeetched it out to breaking point. da brat referencing teedra moses in her excellent guest rap. and most of all - this incredible vocal performance from kelly, imperious and passionate. she works herself up into a glacial frenzy on the chorus, which features a couple of fantastic rising chord changes and culminates in this stunning wordless "WO-OH! WO-OH!" hook. in the second verse, her vibrato on the words "seen you in the club/I was looking fine/seen you in the club/with a lot on your mind" sends chills down my spine.
there is a ysi on my blog!

No rapping on this one but yeah. Do you think the stiff-legged tin-man style of dancing will catch on?

oh ilm u r disappointing sometimes! a whole working day later and nada from your lips.
AAANYWAY though, i shall talk among myself.
i love the voice kelly's settled into: kind of like a grown cassie. a lot of the production reminds me of ryan leslie, it's understated and swooning in the same way (though nothing is by him), and kelly's got the same careful, relaxing way of singing. no beyonce-esque histrionics from her! but she never sounds as girlish as cassie can.
apart from the two go-go tracks - 'like this' as we know is awesome but there's also 'work' which is jittery and and frankly, hits me in exactly the way that i keep expecting amerie's 'gotta work' to. anyway, apart from those it's actually this wonderfully conflicted post-relationship thing: fully half of it must be about looking back on a dead relationship, but from subtly different angles - these are the best songs. 'flashback' (singing quietly to herself, beyond tears, beats like raindrops on a tin roof, cushioned by a choir. 'still in love with my ex', all about baldly expressing undignified/abject feelings which shouldn't be made public, but no emotional hysteria - it's all the more effective b/c kelly's so calm, so resigned to her melancholy. and 'gotsta go' (here as a BONUS TRACK!!!) (and entitled, promisingly, 'gotsta go (part 1)'), of course - fire and ice and denial.
oh yeah and she gets her dreamgirls moment with 'this is love'! so broadway.
i really love this album.

no doubt I know, right? will be in agreement mode. He is still shocked however by Kelly's appearance in Freddy Vs Jason.
