Fad Gadget By Frank Tovey

...is the final title for the Frank Tovey retrospective on Mute, which now clocks in at two DVDs and two CDs. The press release breaks down the tracklistings, with DVD 1 covering the new documentary, TV appearances and videos, DVD 2 a massive amount of live performances, and the two CDs a pretty wide range of singles, rarities, the a-side of the Mkultra single, one of the tracks from the Boyd Rice collaboration, etc. Only six tracks are duplicated from the Best of Fad Gadget release- "The Box" and the fan-selected "top 5" Fad Gadget tracks ("Back to Nature," "Ricky's Hand," "Ladyshave," "Collapsing New People" and "Love Parasite.")

Thoughts?

it'd be nice to see the live footage as the vhs copies are wearing thin on the ground.

I was wondering about this thing but hearing that the track duplication will be fairly minimal already makes me happy.

Really, the only video content it's missing (that I know of) is the video for Silicon Teens' "Memphis, Tennessee."

two years pass...

Finally got around to watching the documentary last night -- really enjoyable, and you get a sense that he was both creatively restless in a good way as well as somebody who was enjoying his career reboost in 2001 and 2002 with the new round of shows and Temple X as the backing band. Damn shame he died, hell of a legacy to leave though.

I love Frank, got all his work! His solo work is totally slept on.

Such a pity he died young.
