The latest instalment was produced by Desmond Child - who has worked with Kiss, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and Cher - and who wanted Meat Loaf to tone down the pomp and sing from the heart.

Child asked Meat Loaf to be "less theatrical" and the star says the songs became "more personal", applying them to his own life rather than playing a part.

This is not the point of Meat Loaf. The point of Meat Loaf is bombast. Is guilty pleasures. Is excitement. The point is not emotional heartache.

It should be called Bats on a Bike.

I heard his version of "It's All Coming Back To Me Now" (yes, the one Steinmann punted off to Celine Dion in the interim between writing it and inventing Bat3) on the radio the other day. Still theatrical, don't you worry.

The cover looks like a Rhapsody album! Sorry, Rhapsody Of Fire. I like this idea of doing sequels to concept albums, has anyone else doni it? I'm sure someone has, can't think who at the moment. Pete Townshend?

Not quite the same but Rush had the ongoing "Cygnus X-1" thing over A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres.

If his vocals are anything like his hellishly bad performance on American Idol (yes... I watched it), then hella no.

Sequels to concept LPs? Hmmm...Frank Zappa did a couple. The Residents also. And Voivod's first few were all supposedly parts of a bigger whole.

I mean, just the idea of making a "Bat Out Of Hell" without Jim Steinman participating....

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

seriously Bat out of Hell 2 (back into hell) is one of the greatest albums ever. geir is otm about lack of steinman jitters though...

From linked article:
"As with the first two albums, most of the songs have been written by Meat Loaf's long-time collaborator Jim Steinman.

Steinman, the main creative force behind albums I and II, has contributed seven songs this time despite falling out with the singer over who owns the phrase Bat Out of Hell."
