Taken from the review of Wednesday's Webster Hall show...

Ms. Tucker and Ms. Brownstein, who write the songs, are openly gay and sometimes write politically charged lyrics.

Corin Tucker's married with a kid.

Corin Tucker's married with a kid.

i would have regarded this as potentially worthy of mention, but I also don't see how it makes the article wrong

I suppose the "Ms." is inaccurate

Umm, gabbneb, "Ms." is not inaccurate. "Miss" would be inaccurate. The whole point of "Ms." is to make women's titles not conditional on their marital status.

uh, oh yeah, or something

These damn fly-by-night lipstick lesbians... it's a fact-checker's nightmare.

It's silly, but it's also kind of shocking for the Times to get it so wrong for a pretty high-profile band. Ms. Tucker has never been "openly gay", and I think she has been openly straight for 8-9 years. Ms. Brownstein was pretty openly gay. Neither one ever talked about it much, though. I think what happened was that they were outed by an early press story that mentioned that they had been involved briefly, and they would confirm it if asked but not talk about it much (except that Tucker once said it was embarassing when her parents read the original story and hadn't known about the relationship).

well what do you expect us to do about it?

s1ocki (slutsky), Friday, 4 August 2006 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

i sometimes begin to wonder if internet backlash has reached the point where there's a backlash against backlashing. "ohhhhh, hyper-nitpicking the times is sooooo late july!!!"

um.... um.

marc h. (marc h.), Friday, 4 August 2006 21:37 (eighteen years ago)

i guess "backlash" probably isn't the right word, sorry

This snafu will change the face of music writing forever...
