Let's discuss the new M.I.A. single: "London Bridge"

It's burning up and making chart history.

A few weeks ago when it came on, I was disgusted. After playing it, a local dj said that he had never heard anything like it before. He called it a hot, groundbreaking record. Bleh.

Anyway, Fergie best summed up my reaction in the song itself: Oh shit.

Um....does MIA actually have anything to do with this? Or are you just drawing the comparison in sounds/styles/pronunciation of "London"? Anyway, it's a pretty okay track wasted on a shite song - Fergie apparently cannot write lyrics to save her life. And as if the words aren't half-baked and cliched enough, she even reuses a whole verse! Terrible and awkward.

THAT m.i.a.?

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 09:08 (nineteen years ago)

What? London Bridge is not an M.I.A. song!

Aditya (dan138zig), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, it's actually going to be bought by people!

edward o (edwardo), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

It was a joke! It sounds extremely similar to M.I.A.

Get it?!

But really, I was thinking about it last night, and the number of problems with this song is huge.

Haha, by the reactions of people, seems you didn't make it clear enough that it was a joke.

hahahaha awesome thread

or, y'know, just wasn't funny

Yes, it's not funny that one talentless bint making annoying music sells nothing, whereas another talentless bint making annoying music is going to sell truckloads.

edward o (edwardo), Thursday, 10 August 2006 07:57 (nineteen years ago)

Will.i.am is one of the most awful producers I have ever heard.

The bridge in the video is Tower Bridge, not London bridge.

Oh dear fergs.

Rowlando for the kidz (Sam Rowlands), Thursday, 10 August 2006 10:26 (nineteen years ago)

London Bridge looks dull though so you can't blame them for that.

Raw Patrick (Raw Patrick), Thursday, 10 August 2006 11:25 (nineteen years ago)

It's not produced by Will.I.Am, but by a certain Polow da Don.

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 10 August 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

hahahahaha seriously I love this thread

fandango (fandango), Thursday, 10 August 2006 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

It reminds me more of Missy than M.I.A.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 10 August 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

Some of the vocals must have been "informed" by "Galang", production-wise though it doesn't sound so M.I.A. to me.

God, I suck.

Tape Store (Tape Store), Thursday, 10 August 2006 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

She certainly helped herself to M.I.A.'s trademark shtick of ending each phrase with a li'l yelp.

(and when I compare "London Bridge" to M.I.A., I was referring to Fergie's vocals moreso than the production...)

Countdown to the pisspants picture? (It's the only way to feel that god or karma or something indeed exists).

paulhw (paulhw), Friday, 11 August 2006 00:15 (nineteen years ago)

Is the London Bridge a metaphor for her vagina? Or does Fergie want to go down every time "you" come around?

Ari El-Pincus (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 11 August 2006 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

I always thought that if it transparently resembled anything, it was "Hollaback Girl." except I like "London Bridge" way more than that (or anything by M.I.A. for that matter).

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Friday, 11 August 2006 02:17 (nineteen years ago)

I like/am highly amused by her attempts to bite lyrics and flow from a few other pop-crunk hits but hardly gets ANY of them even close to right, simply dropping them all over the track like half-chewed bits of burger instead.

fandango (fandango), Friday, 11 August 2006 02:25 (nineteen years ago)

getting*

fandango (fandango), Friday, 11 August 2006 02:26 (nineteen years ago)

Wait...In what way does this sound like M.I.A. that "Maneater"-as-fellated-by-ILM does not?
