if you're into reggae/hip-hop/electro, etc.? Is the Soul Jazz night at Elektrowerkz any good? and is it true that David Rodigan has a regular night?

soul jazz night used to be mostly ska, blue beat and older reggae/dub, with a bit of dancehall and jungle thrown in, but I haven't been for a few years. It was always a good night, very friendly, pretty cheap and you'd get to laugh at the silly looking goths wearing black wedding dresses from the club upstairs when you went to the coat check.

What about vaguely INDIE clubs? Has anyone been to Frog? Should I just go to Casino Royale? It's my birthday (well, it was a few days ago, but I'm celebrating tomorrow) and indie club will be a good compromise for everyone. I'd like one that will not play shit hair-indie preferably. Wishful thinking, probably, especially as the band on at Frog tomorrow is fucking Boy Kill Boy.

Ooh steer well clear of FROG then.

Here's a good FROG story :

A couple of weeks ago, Islands were booked to play. They soundchecked, and went out to eat. When they got back, they found that the venue had decided to re-varnish the dancefloor. But apparently they used the wrong kind of varnish - and it wouldn't be dry for at least 24 hours. So the gig (and the whole night) was cancelled. Wahey!

Lolz! Hmm, I think I was figuring maybe one of the smaller rooms at Frog might play good music. I haven't been out clubbing much for a while, most of my old faves aren't on any more. :(

I find dubstep a bit uh, cerebral, for the dancefloor.

(this is just some random London club scene thread I found, if there’s a more appropriate one, plz let me know)

let us now celebrate ama ‘piano’ smith & the clowns (breastcrawl), Wednesday, 1 March 2023 21:29 (two years ago)
