Greatest Back Covers

Front covers have been done to death, but what of the reverse side? It normally contains track details, copyright information etc, but there have sure been some stunners regardless of this.

The Beta Band did absolutely brilliant back covers, for a start. What are your favourites?

I think 80s "power-pop" and metal bands are going to pwn this thread.

Can - Limited Edition has the best front and back pairing ever. I posted them once a long time ago, but can't remember the thread.

ha! on my CD version the front cover on the live disc is the back cover on the studio one and vice versa. both are indeed awesome, though, so OTM.

Funkadelic, Free Your Mind... etc.

Monty Von Byonga (Monty Von Byonga), Friday, 11 August 2006 22:17 (nineteen years ago)

Add 70s funk/r&b groups to this as well... those highly electrified italic fonts! The Ohio Players ones are top rank.

(despite the Ohio Players not using the italics)

Gotta love a covers thread with no images.

all my parades are pissed on, Doughnut, it's part of the harsh way of life here.

May as well go down fighting: the reverse cover of Mansun's Six is MUCH better than the oft-derided front.

la düsseldorf _viva_, for the dude with the camel.
daniel johnston _artistic vice_ for the sweet shot of his "band," aka the bunch of west virginian natives wearing bat man the movie t-shirts and the likes.

worst/most-played-out back cover idea: the front cover reversed.

xpost: XTC's Black Sea perhaps the worst culprit.

Mogwai's Happy Songs For Happy People hides the 'F' of 'For' on the back cover, giving the title an apparently new spin.

I LOVE the cowboy dude on the flipside of The Sophtware Slump, carrying his synthesiser off into the night in a last stand against technological failure in the 1880's Midwest (or whatever it is).

Yanqui UXO has a brilliant flipside depending on where your political beliefs lie, and Slow Riot... tells one and all how a Molotov cocktail might be made.

Ah, wait. An absolute stormer (arf) and perhaps my all-time favourite... Verve's A Storm In Heaven. I don't know why, but it somehow just rules.

sorry that picture's kind of shakey... i wish i could do it better justice... i can just sit and look at the real thing forever.

it should also be noted that Guava Jam was named the #2 Greatest Hawaiian Album of all time in this book.
