DJ in distress, needs adult contemporary fun rock weirdness

i haven't asked a question here for probably a year, but now i need your help. i've found myself in the unfortunate position of dj-ing a farewell party for a fourty/fifty-something academic lady. i dj mostly electro and techno, so our tastes don't overlap much. she's given me a bunch of discs from her collection, to help me along. she likes african and brazilian pop, which i also like a fair amount of, so i've pretty much got that covered (unless you want to suggest something essential). now she also likes classic rock (springsteen and the pretenders and some U2 etc) with a slight helping of 80s quirkiness (thomas dolby, elvis costello). now, i've got no ear for classic rock, so springsteen sounds terribly bloated and overwrought to my minimal ears - can you help me out in suggesting fun, recognizable, playable singles from 80s classic rock? and i've got some 80s weirdness - (talking heads, kate bush, brian eno) but i'd like a little more, on the rock-ier side, not the poppier, preferably. and the more well known, the better.

thank you in advance.

ok, the 'contemporary' in the title was wrong

Are you afraid of using your brain? Isn't this the fun part of djiing? I mean, what the fuck is the point if you're just going to have a bunch of geeks decide your playlist for you?

Seriously, enough of these fucking threads

God that sounds horrible.. to acutally have to DJ a party...

why asking a bunch of geeks ANY fucking thing, then? i'm asking people to share their knowledge of a genre i know little about, i'm not asking people to transcribe lyrics or find me mp3s.

Errr... that "Turning Japanese" song, for example?

i've found myself in the unfortunate position of dj-ing a farewell party for a fourty/fifty-something
