http://www.riseaboverecords.com/images/catalog/148.jpgFilled with visions of feckless scarecrows, errant knights and the quiet joys of candlelight, the debut full-length album (The Lick On The Tip Of An Envelope Yet To Be Sent) by these medieval minstrels, Circulus , gave those brief hot summer months of 2005 a soundtrack of ancient wind instruments, 70s Moog synthesisers and ghostly harmonies. Now they are back and have moved five centuries into the future, creating a Baroque-Rock album of the highest caliber. Clocks are like people should see Circulus jump forward in terms of success as well as era’s.The much improved and accomplished songwriting/production on ‘Clocks Are Like People’ shows Circulus in a more laid back and comfortable light. Key tracks ‘Song Of Our Despair’ and ‘Wherever She Goes’ have radio written all over them, whilst the Elizebithan harpsichord workout of ‘To The Fields’ or the Moog soaked wonders of ‘Bouree’ prove that the have lost none of their creative appeal

Who else has heard this album? The songs are shorter and more concise than the last album. Stronger songs too. Clearly theres also more production on it. It's not as weird as the 1st album but the songs are really strong. It is a progression(HA!) rather than rehashing the 1st album. Still plenty of the moog though to keep fans happy. Lyrics and singing are probably even more Syd Barrett-esque than the 1st album.Terrorizer gave it 9/10.
The 1st album is a terrific album full of weirdness and songs about scarecrows running across the fields (see what I mean about syd?)It sounds like an album made 500 years ago but somehow with modern production. Great songs too.

I DESPISED the first album and them live during the same period, it was like something Rik Mayall would come up with. I have no desire to hear the second LP.
It makes me glum that their drummer is AMAZING.

When I interviewed Michael Tyack, the main guy in the band, and he was telling me about how he wanted to get a castle in Brittany and live life like he was on the back of an ISB LP, he seemed pretty sincere. I think you'd have to be, really. Doesn't seem to be a particularly profitable thing to busy yourself with if you're not really living it.

I JUST BOUGHT A PORTHOLE ON THE NEW ALBUM!!!!
I figured that's kind of an investment for the retro-future.
I'm excited about the new album. Is anyone else?

Well, I just got mine today. Spotted at least one other ILX0r in the portholes.

Yup. And at least one other person I know who doesn't post to ILX.

Err, porthole?
― Enemy Insects (NickB), Wednesday, 10 June 2009 21:29 (sixteen years ago)
yeah, they financed the album by selling portholes to fans. Basically, if you sent them £50 and a photograph, you'd get 3 copies of the album - plus, the album artwork is of a giant spaceship and they put all the faces of all their fans in the portholes. It's really cute and I feel like I have some kind of artefact.

the people at work are making fun of me for going to a festival where Circulus were the headliners.
