This is seriously probably like 75% of all music videos. Limp Bizkit's "My Way" has probably the most atrocious employment of this device, as it opens with the band members hanging out on the set (omg how meta!!!) and going "Well, we need to shoot a video, I guess we'll just use some of these props and costumes, huh?" So I think they're maybe cavemen and cowboys and stuff like that. Complete and total waste of time saved only by the absurdity of Fred Durst trying to sound like a badass while declaring "My way or the highway!" like he's somebody's wack dad.

Would "Too Shy" by Kajagoogoo count? There are only three "time frame" changes -- one of the Forties (ca. WWII era), one of ca. 1981 (the New Romantic garb tipped me off), and one of the then-present, which was about 1983. The scenery doesn't really change all that much (if at all), but the different styles of clothing fit the scenes. Come to think of it, the video looks like it took all of $2,000.00 to make, and hey, why doesn't that waitress's hair change throughout the video? I haven't thought of that before....
