Own thread for talkin' about this. As good as Movements?

I don't see why you would want to compare these albums, they don't sound remotely alike. Anyway, I like the title track "Children of Love" a lot, a lovely piece of wobbly house music. Any ideas where the sample comes from?

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 17 August 2006 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

the scary voices are offputting but the music has great bounce.

not as good as movements.

jergins (jergins), Thursday, 17 August 2006 20:29 (nineteen years ago)

Way better than MovementzzZZZZ (sorry Job, now everybody has to speak out ;)

The voices are great, makes it a bit lighter, a bit more fun. The only track I hate is 'Ride the Pony'.

Omar (Omar), Friday, 18 August 2006 06:21 (nineteen years ago)

"Ride the Pony" is such a great track, WTF?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 18 August 2006 07:15 (nineteen years ago)

I don't like Smurfs. ;)

Omar (Omar), Friday, 18 August 2006 07:47 (nineteen years ago)

Omar, do you hate fun Detroit Grand Pubahs?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 18 August 2006 08:29 (nineteen years ago)

Of course not, but they sound more like stoned trolls, no?

Omar (Omar), Friday, 18 August 2006 08:53 (nineteen years ago)

Greatttt LP, mang!

Used 'Ride the Pony' on this mix and life is good.

yours fondly, harshaw. (mrgn), Friday, 18 August 2006 18:04 (nineteen years ago)

The album version of Ride The Pony is kinda annoyingly short.

This album is great, maybe more enjoyable in all than Movements, tho I agree the comparison is a little odd.

However I still maintain that the Fuckaponydelic 12 they did is in fact better than anything on the album, it is a little tricky to get but it is really brilliant. If anyone wants an mp3 send me a mail.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 18 August 2006 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

I was going to ask if this was the same person behind the Fuckaponydelic thing, which is pretty out there (and mixes pretty seamlessly with, like, the Excepter record)

Dominique (dleone), Friday, 18 August 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

"Ride The Pony" works better the longer it is - on a Jay Haze DJ mix it forms a centerpiece which feels like it goes on forever, in the best possible way. I love all those endless hypnotic minimal disco tracks of the last few years. I thinK i've said before that I group it with Schaeben & Voss's "One Night at the Disko", "Cosmic Sandwich" and the Kiki & Silversurfer remix of "Safari".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 18 August 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

i've got it. it's great.

thief (grand), Friday, 25 August 2006 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

and: no review tim?

grand (grand), Friday, 25 August 2006 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't heard it yet :-(

I wasn't given it to review and am too poor to buy it righgt now.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 25 August 2006 21:19 (nineteen years ago)

tremendous album.

dance album of the year for me, so far.

granted, i am a cranky old man and haven't heard EVERYTHING.

I was doing the radio show last night and played the new Michael Ho on Tuning Spork, was just thinking people who love this record must check out this label more, it is the laughing man's minimal, though not wacky, just amazing housey rhythms (but there are weird external influences too, Falco Brocksieper's 12 sounds kind of grimey) with jacking minimal beats. Always different.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 8 September 2006 06:37 (nineteen years ago)

two months pass...
Still thinking this album is utterly tremendous.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 13 November 2006 12:36 (nineteen years ago)

I like the second half more than the first, where it seems things get a bit more sickly, spookier.

Dominique (dleone), Monday, 13 November 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Really should go back and listen to it again - still love/prefer the Fuckaponydelic 12" - which should be easier to get now that Cocoon has offically released "Switch the light" from it(complete with motorcitysoul remix).

Jedmond (Jedmond), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)

Does anyone know if the Motorcitysoul album is any good? From 2004 or last year i think. I love the remix track that guy has on Villalobos's Green & Blue, but everything i've read about his stuff makes it sound very tame.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

I second Dominique- "Mafalda" especially is just glorious.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

It's a great album.. Very fond of 'freaky stories of earth'. Jay Haze said on the mnml forum awhile back that a 'dark side of the pony' EP was going to come out.. Not sure if these would be reworkings by him or remixes by other people entirely but either way should be cool.

His recent 'soul in a bottle' single is lovely too.
