Where the b-side (or other track) is credited to a different name, but really its.....

I guess this may be 'seven inch city', but hey.

1) The Newell Octet: "Baby I'm Yours" (b-side to Arctic Monkeys' "Leave before the lights come on")
2) Earl Vince and the Valiants: "Somebody's gonna get their head kicked in tonite" (b-side to Fleetwood Mac's "Man of the world")

Ha ha, I have an Immediate vinyl compilation from the '80s that has FM's "Man of the World" followed by "Somebody" created to EV&TV. . . .

Rickey Wright (Rrrickey), Friday, 18 August 2006 08:33 (nineteen years ago)

3) The Selector: "The Selector" (B-side to the Specials' "Gangsters" but not actually The Selector as such).

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 18 August 2006 09:24 (nineteen years ago)

the opposite:
Nick Lowe and His Sound - "(What's so funny 'bout) Peace Love and Understanding" [actually elvis costello & the attractions] b/w Nick Lowe - "American Squirm"

i'm not sure i understand.

the associates should fit this easily, right. 39 lyon street and whatever other names they went under, had them listed as the artist for the b-side, but had the psuedonym for the a-side.

a goodun: a record with both the a-side and b-side not actually the artist (though i'm sure there must be a psuedonyms thread here already right?) --- human league's The Men single.

oh... and many of the heaven 17 records had the b-sides attributed to b.e.f.

Phil Spector did this all the time..

Robert Wyatt gave his b-sides away on a couple of his Rough Trade 7"s

True, but there are a great many where the artist actually is someone else on the b-side.

Not too many where the artist is actually on the b-side too, just under a different name.

A: Wet Wet Wet: With a Little Help From My Friends
B: Billy Bragg: She's Leaving Home

This single was even a UK #1 in 1988.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 18 August 2006 19:48 (nineteen years ago)

i have a pearl jam christmas 7" that has an REM song on the b-side.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Friday, 18 August 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

aren't those just split 7"s? i had thought the thread was supposed to be about "splits" that were really just pseudonyms

Dan Gr (certain), Friday, 18 August 2006 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

is that what it is?

Christopher Costello (CGC), Friday, 18 August 2006 23:22 (nineteen years ago)

YES

In typical style, Geir hasn't bothered to read even the first post.
