Songs Atronomical

I'm making a mix for the act of stargazing. I meant to explore it as an activity a little bit, rather than have a dozen songs about the nighttime. So there are welcome digressions: astronomy & physics related things like the YLT and roygbiv, spaceships, werewolves, etc.

It's need more songs to fill the tape up and I'm wondering if anyone could recommend some good material I'm missing out on.

Here is what I have so far:

Astral Weeks / Van Morrison
Stay Up Late / Talking Heads
Shine / Depeche Mode
Stone's Throw from the Sky / Josephine Foster
Looking for Astronauts / The National
Baby and the Satellite / Micah P Hinson
Dead Moon Night / Dead Moon
Spaceships / The Telescopes
Center of Gravity / Yo La Tengo
Roy G Biv / Boards of Canada
Wolf Like Me / Tv on the Radio
Life on Mars? / David Bowie
Floating in the Clearest Night / Colleen
Sky Phenomena / Jens Lekman
The Night Knows Nothing at All / Six Organs of Admittance
Mars / Television

Hey, it was a straight fight between 'Space' and 'Space Beatle' (those Beta boys had the cheek to stick 'em both on the same album), and althouth Space Beatle is the better song (with the brilliantly devastating breakdown from chorus back into verse), if we're looking for 'astronomical songs' it's gotta come down to lyrical content.

Lyrical point of 'Space Beatle' = "I love you to pieces"
Lyrical point of 'Space' = "The Milky Way results in the crowding of extremely faint stars"

The first is a lovelorn electronic ballad, the latter is a spacey freakout and so wins THIS battle. :-)

I think that's a misheard lyric from 'Liquid Bird' later on that same album (HTZ). I think the word's 'eternal', not 'a turtle'.

Steve: "I tried to imagine the most pathetic creature ever made and I imagined that would be a turtle spinning in space. You've seen turtles trying to get up on the beach to lay their eggs so imagine one spinning in space. If they landed on a bit of land they'd be fucked, if they landed in the sea there'd be alright but how many planets do you know that have got sea on them? I don't know of any."

Robin: "I thought you'd read too many Terry Pratchett books."

Steve: "I've never heard of him."

Robin: "They're about a world going through space on the back of a turtle."

The B-52's - "There's a Moon in the Sky (Called the Moon)"

And when the tape ends, chill out to Fripp/Eno's Evening Star and The Equitorial Stars.

Hideous Lump (Hideous Lump), Sunday, 20 August 2006 02:25 (nineteen years ago)

Paper Moon - preferably Nat King Cole version
Have You Seen The Stars Tonight - Jefferson Starship

jim wentworth (wench), Sunday, 20 August 2006 02:58 (nineteen years ago)

Spiritualized - Take Your Time
Joni Mitchell - This Flight Tonight
Bark Psychosis - Pendulum Man
Billie Holiday - I Wished For The Moon

And many whole albums actually fit this awesomely well.

Slowdive - Pygmalion
Eno - Apollo
Flying Saucer Attack - Further (musically really fitting)
And if it wasn't the most fucking bleak thing I've ever heard and thus very rarely listened, not to even talk about recommending:
Codeine - Frigid Stars
