Although "his father introduced him to music from an early age, he saw Nirvana at Reading Festival age 11" is wrong on so many levels...

1) our Amber and Alice saw Placebo at age 4 and 6 so ner...
2) other

But otherwise, we can live in hope, cant we?

Didn't John sometimes play "Tom's Tips" (might even have been a weekly thing in the late 90s), mainly of a techno and hardcore variety? Those were usually pretty good! So I'd be interested to hear this. At least it shouldn't all be indie indie indie (and I'm one of ILM's not-quite-resident corny indie fuxx0rs). Hopefully the Nirvana thing is just the BBC's feeble attempt to find an angle for the kids and nothing to do with Mr Ravenscroft.

What is this Slashmusic and how can I listen to it? The C4 "Slashmusic" website doesn't seem to mention radio or have any listings anywhere.

Rebecca (reb), Monday, 21 August 2006 08:29 (nineteen years ago)

yes, why not. good luck to him.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Monday, 21 August 2006 08:32 (nineteen years ago)

i saw him, with his father, at Reading in 1991. he had a napalm death t-shirt on. (ok, could've been his brother but...)

(xpost)

peel also played a couple of things from his kid's school concert (a couple of which i have on tape, including one that rhymes 'agean' with 'water skiing') and one track (Down Pike's) that was a teenage son's band's effort.

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Monday, 21 August 2006 08:34 (nineteen years ago)

He saw Nirvana at the age of 11? Poor lad...

two weeks pass...

I heard the first one, excellent stuff. He does have his father's style in a lot of ways. This is a must-keep-up-with, for me.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 8 September 2006 17:01 (nineteen years ago)

Here's me bumping this.

The programmes are uniformly excellent, and well worth the effort.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 07:44 (nineteen years ago)

yes. Rigil especially nice in the last one. saw him live about a month ago but it was late and everyone was leaving.

they really do need a full list with titles and artists and to archive it. it's about 6 or 7 lines of text a week, surely channel4 can manage that? (the acrimm(?) track from week 2 didn't even get a mention on the site.)

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 07:48 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.channel4.com/music/mymusic/slashmusicradio.html

As you say, this is close but needs a little bit more.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 07:59 (nineteen years ago)

yes, i knew that. but it's not even halfway there, hence the rant 8)

Koogy Yonderboy (koogs), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 08:04 (nineteen years ago)

(I'm just adding these links for my (and by nature, yourn) benefit, so's I can quickly get to them later. "Add to Favourites", never heard of it)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 08:06 (nineteen years ago)

Oh yeah, dropping Alice off at Brownies, while she's singing "give me 50p and I'll show you a good time" .. fairly classic!

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

what is wrong with seeing nirvana as a kid, exactly?

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

nothing that's not wrong with seeing them any other time

bernard snow (sixteen sergeants), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

hai

RoxyMuzak© (roxymuzak), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 15:03 (nineteen years ago)

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 5 October 2006 10:13 (nineteen years ago)

hey! it might be better than 6music (qv that radio 2 thread). i shall investigate.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 5 October 2006 10:19 (nineteen years ago)

heh, what a comedy nasal funster! mark's right: he's got a peel-y touch, but it doesn't sound forced or even particularly intentional. i like this a lot already.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 5 October 2006 10:24 (nineteen years ago)
