little bit early i grant you but this is biggish news.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/5271104.stm

*last* time they did that it was pretty interesting.

they're dropping both 'best pop' and 'urban' categories.

pisces (piscesx), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:12 (nineteen years ago)

Who IS the greatest-ever Brits winner?

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:24 (nineteen years ago)

Joan Armatrading

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:28 (nineteen years ago)

"British music is in one of its most exciting phases," said Peter Jamieson from the Brits committee, "So what better time to take the show live?"

well, I'm convinced.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:32 (nineteen years ago)

oops, for a second i got it confused with the Mercury. silly me. :(

Best Mercury winner?

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:41 (nineteen years ago)

I like the possibility that M People have sold the most records out of all the MMP winners.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:49 (nineteen years ago)

Dropping 'best pop' and 'best urban' to be replaced with 'best hivemind dirge rock moron bait drivel' act

alext (alext), Monday, 21 August 2006 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

it didn't used to be live???

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 21 August 2006 12:21 (nineteen years ago)

i thought it was live one or two years with Chris Evans in the mid 90s but probably 'delayed-live'.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 21 August 2006 12:24 (nineteen years ago)

So who would be the modern day counterparts for Sam Fox & Mick Fleetwood? Other than Sam Fox & Mick Fleetwood obv.

Michelle Marsh and Syd Barrett

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 21 August 2006 12:37 (nineteen years ago)

yeh it would have to be people who are not presenters. so Church won't qualify soon. the answer is surely Jordan and Peter Andre on some stilts (or did Jordan present something already?).

Konal Doddz (blueski), Monday, 21 August 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

keeley hazel and morrissey

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 21 August 2006 12:38 (nineteen years ago)

my joke was that so-called professional presenters like kielty are just as shit as the amateurs.

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 21 August 2006 12:39 (nineteen years ago)

Jordan frequently presents herself to budding young popstars.

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 12:40 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm. non-presenters, one short, one tall. OK...

"WAAAAAH I don't like music it's too loooooouuuuud....."

Scourage (Haberdager), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

no, never live on telly since '87. always live on bbc radio though, leading to a farcical situation where you already knew the winners 24 hours in advance and knew *what* had been happening but couldn't see it all until it was old news.
there were so many complaints about this in the aftermath of jarvis v jacko 96 that itv broadcast the whole unedited thing at the end of that week. but no never delayed-live or live of any kind since 87.

i guess some of the people involved have forgotten how bad 87 really was or something cause that could be the only possible reason they'd do it live again.
i tuned in aged 13 as the year before had been *pretty* bad anyway, but nothing could have prepared me for the horror.
whenever i see boy george, somewhere in the back of my mind i think 'hey look it's the four tops'. a joke all too nightmarishly funny for anyone who watched.

maybe we re a bit slicker these days. god i hope so.

pisces (piscesx), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:24 (nineteen years ago)

i don't see why it's so hard to do live!

'they' do the oscars.

Bashment Jakes (Enrique), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

Best rock has been dropped too.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Monday, 21 August 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

This meant that Katie Melua and James Blunt both received nominations, despite protests from some quarters that they were not true pop acts.

This made me snigger. CAMPAIGN FOR REAL POP!!!!
