effects vs songs

jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

i love the shit outta on-u and they went all over the place genre fucked, but there's not much better than the Love Joys

jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 05:03 (nineteen years ago)

hmmm no i am talking more about the AFRICAN ROOTS end of the wackies experience.

the art ensemble of chicago house (vahid), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 05:07 (nineteen years ago)

i really should have titled this AFRICAN ROOTS vs AFRICAN HEAD CHARGE

except then again i've been digging intensely on NATURE'S DUB and STARSHIP AFRICA

the art ensemble of chicago house (vahid), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 05:08 (nineteen years ago)

what's the African Roots thing all about? i've never heard it?

i listened to African Head Charge just last night.

jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 05:16 (nineteen years ago)

Wackies, but I love plenty of On-U Stuff (the Singers & Players stuff is esp. good.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

yeah singers and players is tops, and first african head charge alb

ts: mark stewart vs. keith hudson

PARTYMAN (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

Is the Pop Group included or are we just talking Mark solo and in New Age Steppers and the like?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:54 (nineteen years ago)

Either way Keith takes it for his pre-I AM A SOLO ARTIST NOW productions and his dub sets (Brand is as underrated as Flesh of My Skin. . . is probably overrated.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

i dunno dude, i might have to give it to stewart!

PARTYMAN (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

(p. group included, obv)

PARTYMAN (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

I can't really get into Stewart's solo stuff for the most part. Gary Clail either obv. Pop Group is a convincing argument in his favor though (not sure either Pick A Dub or Brand is as good as Y.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

i really, really love learning to cope with cowardice. as the veneer... less so.

PARTYMAN (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

I actually never heard the Bug produced track on the Soul Jazz comp. Is it good or meh?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 16:15 (nineteen years ago)

the 'mark stewart' lp is the best

and on-u >>> wackies

whatever (boglogger), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't that kind of like asking is Chopin better that Subotnik?

Adrian is tops at studio fuckery, but how do you do better than classic straight up roots and dub? You don't.

What is BETTER anyway (musing to self).

Pop Group is tops, Mark's "Veneer" and "Learning" are aces. Early AHC, a revelation... I'm a BIG London Underground fan too... Watching West Indians In The Cold... doesn't get much better.

Call Capt Kirk, my brain is melting

factcheckr (factcheckr), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Nature's Dub is revelatory.

the eunuchs, Cassim and Mustafa, who guarded Abdur Ali's harem (orion), Thursday, 24 August 2006 02:37 (nineteen years ago)

my stock answer to this is 2006 = wackies, 1996 = on-u despite being woefully deficient in my lstening habits w/r/t either. i do have all of the tackhead singles and i'm a big fan of the current incarnation of rhythm & sound cf. wackies. i like the pop group too.

breakfast pants (disco stu), Thursday, 24 August 2006 04:06 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

I think I have changed my mind since this question was originally asked. I'd apparently completely forgotten the shear awesomeness of African Head Charge/Creation Rebel/Singers & Players/et all. Haha although I have a feeling if I tossed on Love Joys or John Clarke I'd probably change my mind back again. African Head Charge >>>>>> African Roots or really any of the Wackie's dub records though (even if the first volume of African Roots is seriously amazing too.)

seven years pass...

there's not much better than the Love Joys
