Machinations

Got a flyer in the mail yesterday for the "Absolutely 80s" show at Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL, which features (among others) the lead singer of the Machinations.

I remember being pretty into "Pressure Sway" - their first big single I think - at the time (1982 or 83?).

Last night I hauled out my copy of their earlier self-titled EP with an eye-searing orange and blue striped cover, which I'd bought sometime in the 90s: it was rather po-faced and indie but not without its charms.

What say you? According to the promo stuff they got airplay outside Australia. Is this true?

i have a lot of time for this band. pressure sway is fantastic, as is the debut. the first song i really loved of theirs was 'intimacy' from their final (?) album.. it was a minor hit when i was much younger..

According to this thread on a daggy 80s trivia board, they disbanded after Fred Lonergan was injured in a bicycle accident.

That thread reminded me of another of their tracks i liked, "No Say In It", which was in the movie Ruthless People (of which I have no memory at all)
