Is this stuff super-played out now? I'm just warming to it now, so it must be at least 4 yrs out of date.

Plastic Bertrand: Ca plane pour moi
Serge Gainsbourg: Je t'aime (moi non plus), Requiem pour un con, Ford Mustang

Serge Gainsbourg - Requiem pour un Con...recorded in 1967 - sounds like bloody Massive Attack!! I'd stick Bonnie & Clyde on as well

Sorry Alex...your message appeared while I was composing mine. I second you on all, but don't you think Initials BB wins over Ford Mustang?

Jez, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah that stuff is great, but I was hoping more for recommendations for french house/disco/pop from the late 90's to the present, more like the artists I mentioned. Thanks.

RFI: i:cube, motorbass, bob sinclair, etc.

Phoenix-"Funky Squaredance"
Alizee-"Moi, Lolita"
Something off Etienne Charry's 36 Erreurs.

Hey, Fritz, I just made a cd of the best of those Filles in the Garage compilations, plus some more obscure 60s French pop stuff, wanna trade?

Arthur, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Sure, Arthur. I love that shit. Are you looking for anything special?

fritz, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, if you end up making this one, that'd be cool. Heading out-- I'll e-mail you later today.

Arthur, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

ok, anybody got any opinions on: DJ Cam, Etienne De Crecy, Bertrand Burgalat, Earnest St Laurent, or the sourcelab and paris is burning compilations?

fritz, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Super Maria - Au Sommaire de Tricatel (from The Genius of Bertrand Burgalat comp)
Yannick - Ces Soirees-La
M - Onde Sensuelle
M - Close To Me

not from France, but work well in French mixes:
Arling & Cameron - Voulez-Vous
Ian Pooley - Venasque

Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Super Discount - Le Patron Est Devenu Fou. Wasn't Plastic Bertrand Belgian? And I couldn't make a French compy without including Brigitte Bardot's I Have No Need Of Anyone Except My Harley Davidson, but it's hardly '90s filtered house.

Martin Skidmore, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ne Me Quitte Pas by Nina Simone will bring some class to yr comp. Girls will think you're sophisticated.

dan, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

too late.

is anyone familiar with the soundtrack to La Haine? Does it have that great bit where the dj is cutting Edith Piaf in with some dj muggs sounding beats? sounds corny, but it was great in the movie.

fritz, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Alex Gopher's "The Child" was (is) a huge hit in New York. Maybe this is too obvious. The Kenny Dope mix is the best (it's just Kenny's "Buggin on Percussion"—in its entirety—laid over the song!! genius)

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 27 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Something by St. Etienne

Tyler M., Thursday, 28 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

You could add Stereolab, Stereo Total, Jo Lemaire (don't a wonderful version of the Gainsbourg classick Je Suis Venue).

nathalie, Thursday, 28 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

revive
