And how bad they sounded- especially Page dropping tons of notes and being horribly out of tune on "Kashmir"..

Not the best vid clip but,,

Is that Steven Wright?

My Little Ruud Book (Ken L), Saturday, 2 September 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

I watched the first one, but I gave up at the four minute mark.

My Little Ruud Book (Ken L), Saturday, 2 September 2006 16:55 (nineteen years ago)

I remember being underwhelmed watching that as a teenager. Is John Paul Jones even there?

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Saturday, 2 September 2006 16:56 (nineteen years ago)

No Phil Collins on drums, no credibility. Wait, I meant, no incredulity.

Josh in Chicago (Josh in Chicago), Saturday, 2 September 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

(Just kidding, Phil.)

I've been watching my VHS videocassette of The Song Remains the Same for the first time in about 9 years. It makes me grin like a little kid.

And isn't Jimmy Page's jacket the shit?

Joker! Hysterical! Face! (Bimble...), Sunday, 3 September 2006 06:29 (nineteen years ago)

Is John Paul Jones even there?

JPJ is there. (he's playing keyboards). John Bonham's kid is playing the drums.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 3 September 2006 16:18 (nineteen years ago)

Led Zeppelin were better than the Beatles because no one talks about Ringo's drumming. Led Zeppelin had the best rhythm section in the world.
The live version of "The Song Remains The Same" from the film of the same name is a personal favourite.

Joker! Hysterical! Face! (Bimble...), Monday, 4 September 2006 03:15 (nineteen years ago)

because no one talks about Ringo's drumming

I do. "Rain" and "Tomorrow Never Knows" are pretty badass.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 4 September 2006 04:04 (nineteen years ago)

*GASP!* You're WRONG!!!

:0

Joker! Hysterical! Face! (Bimble...), Monday, 4 September 2006 04:42 (nineteen years ago)

They do so talk about Ringo's drumming, so you're wrong too.

Admittedly in the "he's terrible" way, but hey.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 4 September 2006 06:05 (nineteen years ago)

Hahaha.

"VHS videocassette"

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Monday, 4 September 2006 11:09 (nineteen years ago)

Johnny Fever OTM, and you can add "She Said She Said" in there too. Ringo was king of the sloppy-but-satisfying assbackwards drum fill, even tho he certainly wasn't much of a timekeeper. And, even more certainly, no Bonham. (Maybe better than JASON Bonham tho, who knows? Not me - never heard him and I'm too lazy to look at the clip.)

Monty Von Bonzo (Monty Von Byonga), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 08:51 (nineteen years ago)

**even tho he certainly wasn't much of a timekeeper**

This is bullshit.

Dr.C (Dr.C), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 10:25 (nineteen years ago)

The only time I ever thought the timekeeping was out was on "Rubber Soul"

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 10:29 (nineteen years ago)

Not a dis at all. All I meant was that his tempos occasionally tended to get fractionally slower or faster within a song. (Check out "Rain".) In this way, he did NOT play like a machine.

I've always been fascinated by drummers in general, and have frequently embraced a player's flaws/imperfections as marks of distinction. Even the worst of 'em can play a lot better than I ever could (terrible foot/hand coordination.)
