where is fakeILX?

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Saturday, 2 September 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

I read this as "Bo Diddley" and was amazed that he had a myspace. It will take me awhile to get back in shape.

Cunga (Cunga), Saturday, 2 September 2006 18:53 (nineteen years ago)

Who's doing the singing though, it can't be Diddy.

Jena (JenaP), Saturday, 2 September 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

fakeilx is there:

bad hair day house (fandango), Saturday, 2 September 2006 22:00 (nineteen years ago)

HEY OBOE DIDDLY

and PappaWheelie, author of Have You Ever Been Poxy Fuled? (PappaWheelie 2), Sunday, 3 September 2006 00:11 (eighteen years ago)

Is it possible that is a Sun Ra sample? Anybody know? The timbre sound arkestral to me, but then how much music featuring cellos do I actually listen to?

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Sunday, 3 September 2006 00:19 (eighteen years ago)

I mean oboes. (Orchestra instruments, whatever.)

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Sunday, 3 September 2006 00:19 (eighteen years ago)

This album is gonna be so good.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 02:28 (eighteen years ago)

BRINGING NY BACK

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 02:37 (eighteen years ago)

Frightening thought.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 September 2006 02:41 (eighteen years ago)

It's a Miles Davis sample (at least according to one K. West). And yeah, this is fucking great.

Post-Rodney (But no one called it that at the time) (R. J. Greene), Thursday, 7 September 2006 02:52 (eighteen years ago)

Apparently he has Pharoahe Monch writing some shit for him on this album.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:04 (eighteen years ago)

I heard this a few months ago on Hot 97 and was sort of WTFed by it. I kept expecting the rapping to come in and it never did. The beat is kind of cool but it relies too heavily on the original sample and doesn't really do much with it. Then they didn't seem to ever play it again, so I guess everyone else was WTFed too. But I'm glad to hear it's only a B-Side though -- I thought maybe Diddy had REALLY lost his mind.

It's a sample from Bitches Brew, by the way. I'm surprised y'all didn't recognize it - is this not the ILM I know?

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:12 (eighteen years ago)

I donno this song is growing on me. But I had a real rough and stressful day. I'll save final judgement but right now this hits the spot.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

I'm having dreams of club DJs unexpectedly dropping this in sets of all kinds, pop, street rap, bourgie dilla soul, whatever.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:18 (eighteen years ago)

How unexpected can playing a track by him be?

"Wow! And he followed it with something by Ciara!"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:20 (eighteen years ago)

This is pretty left-field, Ned.

Post-Rodney (But no one called it that at the time) (R. J. Greene), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:22 (eighteen years ago)

I have to say hearing this track was pretty unexpected. (bingo xp)

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:24 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I have to admit I think it could be a great club track to get completely stoopid to.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:24 (eighteen years ago)

This is pretty left-field, Ned.

I dunno, guys, to me this feels more like the final codification (at least in this pop cycle) of 'wacky/left field' as expected-behavior-as-usual. My reaction isn't so much 'oh wow!' as it is 'oh, of course.' (The wrench in my theory: that it's a B-side in the end.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:27 (eighteen years ago)

I donno though, to me diddy still never got much mileage out of the "no seriously the neptunes" thing...i do see what yr saying though if you consider diddy's recent behavior as far as those aborted Felix the Housecat singles though!

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:31 (eighteen years ago)

the "no seriously the neptunes" thing

Hahah, this is a beautiful phrase.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:32 (eighteen years ago)

I don't want this to become a big 'isn't-pop-weird' single though either, i'll be much happier if it remains that weird one-off b-side that a few good DJs know how to use.

xp hhaha thanks, i think i might have accidently taken it from ethan tho.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:34 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't really mean "left-field for anyone", just "left-field for Diddy" if that clarifies a bit, though I'd forgotten about the Felix stuff, so maybe not that "left-field for Diddy" after all.

Post-Rodney (But no one called it that at the time) (R. J. Greene), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:38 (eighteen years ago)

http://www.ohword.com/blog/441/p-diddy-impersonates-pharaohe-monch-james-brown

They also got a track written by Pharoahe and produced by Havoc.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:44 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa, that barely sounds like Diddy at all.

"This is the man who provided more jobs for blacks than armed services"

Ouch.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Thursday, 7 September 2006 04:57 (eighteen years ago)

It sounds like Pharoahe, but with more pauses for breath.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 05:02 (eighteen years ago)

for the record, the a-side is very standard 2006 MTV/BET sounding.

grady (grady), Thursday, 7 September 2006 07:38 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't actually heard the a-side yet.

Post-Rodney (But no one called it that at the time) (R. J. Greene), Thursday, 7 September 2006 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

Its basically like a less sparse version of that Cassie song.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

i.e. not as good?

Post-Rodney (But no one called it that at the time) (R. J. Greene), Thursday, 7 September 2006 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

Basically. its not terrible though.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

It's totally a great start to a song.

Eppy (Eppy), Thursday, 7 September 2006 14:34 (eighteen years ago)

Hey this song is cool!

It sounds like it was produced by DJ Mark the 45 King!

I could Ed Lover dance to this!

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

glad that Diddy and I aren't the only crazy ones.

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 7 September 2006 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

M@tt otm re: "Let Me Clear My Throat" comparison.

Post-Rodney (But no one called it that at the time) (R. J. Greene), Thursday, 7 September 2006 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

Diddy also brings back memories of the way underrated Son of Bazerk!

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 7 September 2006 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

2006/07= Flavor Unit renaissance!
