I'll tell you what bands I like, and you tell me what I should like.

I'm super picky and no longer have time to go through tons of lists and sites to find the bands I like. Also Last.fm's recommendations aren't doing it for me.

I like:

The Clientele
The American Analog Set
Midlake (Bamnan and Slivercork)
Sam Prekop
The Sea and Cake
The Shins
Vitesse
Brittle Stars
The Radio Dept. (But not their new album)
Ariel Pink's Haunted Grafitti

Also,

Astrobrite (But not the new album)
Electro Group
Pia Fraus (But not the new album)

So in the first list we have a lot of, like, small indiepop, with a small sound. lo-fi, mellow, and the other common thread is the vocals are usually not that crisp or in-your-face, sometimes with ambient effects (like Clientele and Radio Dept.)

The second list are just noisy Shoegaze bands. But I'm more interested in Indiepop bands along the lines of the first list. I really like stuff that sounds like demos, I like four and eight-track producers, I like synth/keyboard accompaniments. Maybe a bit on the twee side, but good pop songs are a must. Can someone help me out?

Los Angeles - August 10, 2006 - Diamonds are a girl's best friend--and so too is Bratz Forever Diamondz™ (Hip-O/UMe). The third installment in the wildly popular Bratz™ CD music series releases September 19, 2006 and features brand new songs by some of today's hottest pop songwriters and producers, notably Matthew Gerrard, best-known for his work on the #1-charting soundtrack to High School Musical and for hits by Kelly Clarkson, Hilary Duff and Jessica Simpson, to name a few. Song titles on the CD by Gerrard include "Let Go", "Hang On" and "You've Got It".

Contributing to the Bratz Forever Diamondz™ CD is leading entertainment hit-making firm, Engine. Among the tracks via Engine are "Wazz Up" and its Spanish version, "Que Tal," as well as covers of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" and a brand new remake of David Bowie's "Fashion." All music is inspired by MGA Entertainment's new Bratz Forever Diamondz™ fashion doll line hitting stores now.

An initial release of the Bratz Forever Diamondz™ CD includes bonus tracks and special packaging that accommodates a stylish bracelet with cool charms for girls to wear.

In addition to the CD, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will release the latest Bratz™ DVD movie, "Bratz Passion 4 Fashion Diamondz" on September 26, 2006. An early October release date is planned for THQ's Bratz Forever Diamondz™ video games.

Bratz Forever Diamondz™ follows 2005's Bratz Rock Angelz™, which hit #1 on Billboard's Kids Audio Chart and debuted in Billboard's Top 100, where it was a staple for many months and became one of last year's 100 best-selling albums approaching 500,000 units sold worldwide. Earlier this year, Bratz Genie Magic™, a soundtrack to the DVD movie and doll line of the same name, was released.

Bratz™ began as a line of lifestyle fashion dolls manufactured by MGA Entertainment, a leader in consumer entertainment products for children of all ages, and became a worldwide phenomenon among tween girls (ages 6-12). Bratz™ has won more awards and received more press recognition than any other fashion doll brand since its debut in 2001.

The Clientele- flower machine is a total copy of the clientele but they aren't very good, maybe the moles/cardinal would suit you better
The American Analog Set - they're really dull, lots of bands fit that description
Midlake (Bamnan and Slivercork)
Sam Prekop
The Sea and Cake
The Shins-they are an inferior version of mid-late 90s lilys
Vitesse-magnetic fields circa holiday
Brittle Stars-estelle from brittle stars has a new band elephant parade
The Radio Dept. (But not their new album)- puh their new album is fantastic, i'd say the legends but i am assuming your name is a legends reference, maybe sambassadeur
Ariel Pink's Haunted Grafitti- i dunno

Thanks guys, this is great!

scott seward, your contemporary picks are pretty dead on but I must say your other suggestions are leaving me scratching my head after previewing a few of them. I'm afraid I don't see the connection.

electric sound of jim [and why not] (electricsound), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 01:04 (nineteen years ago)

keyth, I'm checking out your suggestions now. I'm excited that estelle from brittle stars has a new band! My name isn't a Legends reference but I should give them another shot. You like that album, though? I felt like all the special sauce was missing. All the great big drum sounds, the razor sharp quitar leads and the nice studio effects are out the window now, and now it's just like a guy and his sequencer/keyboard, and even that isn't used effectively. I think about that song 'I don't need love, I've got my band' when I listen to the new album and wonder if he doesn't got his band no more, like they all walked out on him and he's still trying to make it work.

(the album i'm referring to is Pet Grief)

"that's his schtick"

NO! I just posted the names of a bunch of bands that i like. i have never heard ANY of the bands that he listed except for the sea & cake. i like the sea and cake. wait, i might have heard the american analog set once. they were dreamy, right? i used to work with a guy who loved American Analog Set. He also loved The Hood and the Olivia Tremor Control. Stars Of The Lid would be a good pick for Public Radio. And Space Needle! I love Space Needle!

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 5 September 2006 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

yeah I kind of suspected you were just posting bands you like. I guess I should have specified, tell me what I should like BASED ON my list.

But you nailed it with The Lucksmiths and Camera Obscura. I already know those bands, though. I'm still digging through the others.

Tean Beat records seems worth checking out... Lots of good stuff here. Thanks for all of this guys! I'ts going to take me a while to sift through it.

Right now I'm totally hooked on MIDLAKE! This is so right up my alley it's ridiculous. Banman and Silvercork, and The Trials of Van Occupanther are totally different and they both scratch me right where i itch.
