GOD PUNCH TO HAWKWIND (yournullfame), Friday, 8 September 2006 08:21 (nineteen years ago)

ruined by Sunkist: "Good Vibrations"

ruined by Hawaiian shirts: The Beach Boys

ruined by Pizza Hut: "Rescue Me"

ruined by pizza: Aretha Franklin

ruined by inclusion in pretty much every film trailer ever: "Solsbury Hill"

hank (hank s), Friday, 8 September 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

Ruined by some shitty ad: Vashti Bunyan

emil.y (emil.y), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

Ruined by Coldplay: Computer Love

ledge (ledge), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

ruined by (unintentionally?) hilarious inclusion in a Pontiac commercial which I saw once and then never again, so I can only assume the ad execs quickly realized their mistake and pulled the spot: M83 - "Don't Save Us From the Flames"

bernard snow (sixteen sergeants), Friday, 8 September 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

I just mentioned this on the "Arab Strap split up" thread - ex-gf got me into them, then dumped me shortly after because she realised she was gay. Couldn't listen to them any more after that.

That was years ago now though, happily married etc - I'm sure I could listen to them now, if I were inclined.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:21 (nineteen years ago)

Ruined by Zach Braff/Garden State: The Shins

Jacobo Rock (jacobo rock), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

Ruined by so many film trailers: some huge percentage of 60s and 70s soul

deej.. (deej..), Friday, 8 September 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

This thread finally connects Fontella Bass to Aretha Franklin

"Ruined by Zach Braff/Garden State: The Shins"

good call, though I would place more blame on Natalie Portman...like I can take them seriously after having her character go on about how The Shins will change my life...

and on this note:

(almost) ruined by John Cusack: the Beta Band

hank (hank s), Friday, 8 September 2006 16:01 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, but as writer-director, it's Braff's "indie credentials" that led to such atrocious dialogue.

Has Kraft's Crumbelievable ruined EMF's Unbelievable? Or has it just made it that much better?

Jacobo Rock (jacobo rock), Friday, 8 September 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

better than cheddar

and PappaWheelie, author of Have You Ever Been Poxy Fuled? (PappaWheelie 2), Friday, 8 September 2006 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

(sorry, that was cheesy)

1. Stop watching shitty "hipster" movies
2. Hit mute button during TV commercials

Marmot (marmotwolof), Friday, 8 September 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

briefly dated the girl who "kssssing the lipless" is written for. it ended when she got back together with him.

grady (grady), Friday, 8 September 2006 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

The guy from the Shins changed your life!

struttin' with some barbecue (jimnaseum), Friday, 8 September 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

1. Stop watching shitty "hipster" movies (check that)

2. Hit mute button during TV commercials (impossible, really...the moth to the flame, and all that)

hank (hank s), Friday, 8 September 2006 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

Ruined by camp when I was younger: Any Beatles and all else related to the Beatles song. For some reason they found it fit to make us sing stuff like "Imagine" and "Hey Jude" before we ate. I don't even know.
Chorus of offkey kids in cutoff shorts. Nerdy happy guy with glasses strumming all sunny on his acoustic. me not liking the general force all of the group sing.

Ruined by dumbass no taste girl using pitchfork, etc., bands to feign herself some indie cred to get 12-cd boys or something stupid, wtf: Les Savy Fav. Quasi. Devotchka. Radiohead.

Oh, and ruined by PDA couple that uses it as makeout music: Anything Sufjan.

Not big losses. could almost be good things. but. still.

mox twelve (Mox twleve), Friday, 8 September 2006 21:52 (nineteen years ago)

"Has Kraft's Crumbelievable ruined EMF's Unbelievable? Or has it just made it that much better?"

Was never that good. Thoroughly stomped into the hardwood, along with every other song with a prominent syllable that approximates "BULL", by the Chicago Bulls PA system.

factcheckr (factcheckr), Friday, 8 September 2006 22:11 (nineteen years ago)

Do they ever play The Minotaur's Song?

Marmot (marmotwolof), Friday, 8 September 2006 22:36 (nineteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 9 September 2006 00:16 (nineteen years ago)

no I mean actually remembering some pizza hut commercial that used an Aretha Franklin song? really? there are decent uses toward which that brain bandwidth might be put to use

cure lupus or something, I don't know

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Saturday, 9 September 2006 00:21 (nineteen years ago)

Ruined by the Reagan administration: Born in the U.S.A.

Sean Robison (yaratnam), Saturday, 9 September 2006 00:44 (nineteen years ago)

pearl jam (ruined by the fact they've been around way too long)
iggy pop - i wanna be your dog (ruined by people who like it solely because they're jumping on some retro bandwagon)

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Saturday, 9 September 2006 03:20 (nineteen years ago)

I really like that Shins song from that movie!

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Saturday, 9 September 2006 04:06 (nineteen years ago)

Ruined by overhearing a coworker who I despised saying how much she loved him - Will Oldham

Surprisingly not yet ruined by it's inescapable presence in Carnival Cruise commercials - "Lust for Life" (Is this song unkillable?)

Hideous Lump (Hideous Lump), Saturday, 9 September 2006 04:57 (nineteen years ago)

lust for life ruined by carnival cruises

kyle (akmonday), Saturday, 9 September 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

Tarantino in his prime ruined some classic tunes for me by overexposing them and turning into some hip retro pop culture package. Sure, he used music well but I got so sick and tired of hearing the Pulp Fiction soundtrack played out of every dorm room in the mid 90's that I still can't fully appreciate Let's Stay Together, Jungle Boogie, Dick Dale, etc. I think he also probably ruined "Stuck in the Middle With You". At least, Jackie Brown was under the radar enough not to ruin the Delfonics.

Jacobo Rock (jacobo rock), Saturday, 9 September 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Surprisingly not yet ruined by it's inescapable presence in Carnival Cruise commercials - "Lust for Life" (Is this song unkillable?)

totally ruined by same, and eminently killable

gabbneb (gabbneb), Saturday, 9 September 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

woulda-been-ruined-by-Dirty-Dancing-except-I've-Never-Actually-Seen-It: "Do You Love Me?"

subsequently ruined by cultural ubiquity: "Do You Love Me?"
