Well, yeah. And clearly Amy Phillips does not = Pitchfork, but it's kind of a wtf to see such a freakout when exactly zero Whigs albums made the cut of Pitchfork's "Greatest 100 albums of the '90's" list.

It is probably more by dumb luck than actual influence, but I have seen a couple videos for some of these emo/pop punk bands on Fuse that are coming up with some guitar that reminds me of Rick McCollum's playing in the Afghan Whigs.

It seems the funk/r&b and watered-down post-hardcore influences in the Afghan Whigs carried over to the emo/dance punk of the 00s. Yet I highly doubt the Afghan Whigs themselves were the influence.

More likely Gang Of Four, et al.
