Hello, my name is Oliver
and I'm going to tell you a story.
It's about a young girl....
She's only fifteen years old
and has blond hair blue eyes.
She lives with her parents in New Jersey
and they love her very much;
and one night she and her friends
decided they were going to come to New York City.
"My parents are away and I'll take their car,
they will never know! We're gonna have a great time!"
she said.
And they drove their car over the George Washington Bridge
and drove downtown to the Limelight.
"Wow, look at the line!"
"Don't worry I know the guy at the door,
we'll get in."
And they did.
"So many people look at that guy's shoes...
they must be a mile high!"
And she turned around and bumped into a really cute guy.
They had a good time, they danced for hours and hours;
and she had a few drinks too!
"Hey" he said,
"My roommate's not home and well, I was wondering if you wanna, you know...
come to my place.
I
just don't wanna, I just don't wanna be alone.
And she said
"YES!".
so they got into a taxi and went ro 3rd ave
and 11th street to NYU dorm rooms and want upstairs and sat on his bed.
And he said, "Take this pill..."
And she did.
And then she said "What did you just give me ?"
"EXTACY" he said.
And then...
HE FUCKED HER ALL NIGHT!
Fucked her all night.
Fucked her all night.
Fucked her all night...
It's just one night in New York City.
One night in New York City.
One night in New York City.
It's just one night in New York City.

Excellent excellent excellent track. Except I thought it was older than that. Oh well, goes to show what I know.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 28 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If I'm not mistaken, the Limelight has finally been shut for good. After the whole Peter Gatien/Michael Alig/chopping up drug dealers and setting their limbless corpses in a crate afloat in the hudson river affair, they tried to revive it, but I just read something in the Village Voice that they auctioned off lots of its inner decor (lighting fixtures, seats, toilet stall doors, etc.), so I'd imagine it's all done.

Saw Killing Joke there once.....ahhh, misty water-colored memories of truly Honoring the Fire!

This is not meant to be an attack on jess... it's not. But I've been wanting to say this for a while, and have been holding off, so this is just a convenient opportunity. I dislike it when a thread starts off "how about this track", etc, and fails to mention who it is, assuming everyone will know. A lot of the time it's something electronica or dancey, which I'm not that up on. But just for the sake of everyone else reading, it would be nice if relevant info was given. Ok, rant over; and again I'm not aiming this at jess.

A few of my friends in college were NYC party hounds in the Tunnel/Limelight heyday, and would regale me with tales of Michael Alig's scene. Details magazine was practically a diary of this stuff; it was long before it turned into a men's fashion mag. I hear Macauley Culkin will be playing Alig in the film... do you think he'll kiss boys in it?

"One Night In NYC" - The Horrorist. This should have launched a subgenre called creep-house.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 28 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Love the acid bassline and sinister music-box melody, but I think the lyrics and scenario are sort of boring, not really creepy or funny. Maybe the problem for me is that the vocals sound like they're being recorded by a skinny computer-lab assistant trying to sound "scary". I wouldn't rank this one anywhere near Green Velvet's best stuff.

Ian, Thursday, 28 March 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I read Dan's comment first and was about to reply that "if there's a sub-genre called "creep-house", Green Velvet totally owns it." Totally agree with Ian on this.

the 'one night' that was a hit in europe, thats a remix by chris liebing.

i saw oliver some time ago here in holland at a big gabber party. that was quite impressive. big hall, thousands of people, all sporting the same uniform (ie lonsdale) and during the set they'd put of all the light! except for a big green laser, and two red candles on stage. chesler himself ruled that stage with some sort of a construction-worker light, shining right in his own face. o, and there were a couple of dozen skins in front of the audience raising their middlefinger. strangely i couldnt really tell whether they meant 'fuck off! youre too slow!' or that is was some sort of a praise... but it certainly was a thrill.

i think all the things to come records really stand out as something original. check http://www.thingstocome.com for more info.

This song was hightly controversal when it first came out. I use to work as a bouncer at a well known night club, and I use to see what the theme of this song addresses take place all the time. This hot little 15 to 18 year old, all sluttied up, thinking its her great night out to make her sexual claim in the world and show everyone how bad she can be. And its not just the guys that prey on these girls either. I've seen a few older bisexual and gay women take advantage of these twits as well. One time these three women took a 20 year old college girl back to "their" aparment. There they drugged her and quickly tied her up. The women were into some nasty sick sh*t BDSM stuff that most just think they know about. They call over their friends, and as the cops later recounted, there were at least a dozen women that gang banged her with strapons, each anally, vaginally, and orally sodomizing her, and making the girl orally service all of them. They also anally fisted her, and screw with her all night through. When they were all finished with her, they left her in a near-by alley way. About a couple days later the cops came to the club askign questions, wanting to see our Surveillance tapes. The aparment that they took the girl was registered to phony person and rent hadn't been paid on it for months. We heard the girl was taken to a trauma unit. A friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of her told us a year later that she was still a total mental case and in heavy therapy. Rumor surfaced that these women filmed the girl as she was being raped and it made its way somewhere in the dark underbelly of the internet. That is my true story of a real life event of one girls real night in NYC that she never forgot--or ever will.

Just one night, and so much can happen. Song is fucking mad a wee riskey but a new era of narrative techno. Its different its dark but still you cant help tap your feet to it. After waiting over 5 months to get hold of a copy, I final managed to play it and the crowed went nuts. Check out the virus and flesh is the fever, more twisted tails from the horrorist.

I got this as one of my first downloads, back in 1996 or so.

Controversial, I can imagine it prob. was.

Would I let my teenage daughter hear it? too right. World's too dangerous to be totally innocent of the dangers.

I remember being tripped out to discover that Oliver/the Horrorist was the same Oliver with the very spiky hair who was one of the bus kids in Depeche Mode 101.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 8 September 2009 20:16 (sixteen years ago)

ha, I think you've mentioned that before

Worth repeating! (Since it hadn't been mentioned on this thread yet, at least.)

"One Night In NYC" - The Horrorist. This should have launched a subgenre called creep-house.

9 years later, the closest we get is witch house, although ironically the band Creep comes closest to capturing the vibe of this song.
