Taking Sides: Clare Grogan vs. Susanna Hoffs

battle of the oh-so 80s front ladies. both super cute with weakish voices but with charisma to spare so you didn't notice. solo & acting careers went nowhere, alas. seems like they both could have had a monster career with better luck/management. I'll pick Clare cuz Altered Images were soooo good for a brief period, Bangles were fun but seemed like they were victims of label micro-management or something. will this be a typical usa vs uk thing??

this is actually pretty difficult. but hoffs' paisley underground connections make her the winner as far as i'm concerned. i love so much of what both of them have done though

yes, that's true, i just wish they had stuck more to their paisley deal, seems that got diluted quite a bit after the first record. but chicks with rickenbackers pretty much rule.

I think Clare, she seems more of a tuff little unit in general and I like that upfront quality more than possibly affected coyness. This does vaguely come through in the music btw...

this is closer than the 2000 election though.

CPG by 1,000,009 miles.

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 10:49 (nineteen years ago)

That's a great number.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 11:16 (nineteen years ago)

hahah

'grogan by a mile'

taken out of context, that's amusing

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

this basically boils down to Gregory's Girl v "Manic Monday" for me. I'll go with Clare.

Fantasizing about Hoffs made me, briefly, straight. Her first solo album is dire in a rather splendid manner.
