ha ha worth starting a thread for then.

Skinner's got so bad. I really don't understand why he keeps singing. It must be awful live.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

streets, because original pirate material is actually really good.

lallen > all other streets albums though. she's bad but a grand... and what i've heard of, er, whatever the latest one is called are the worst music i've heard since oasis were around. they make me want to stamp on skinner's face repeatedly.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:35 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't a mate of his responsible for that "Vile" answer record?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:37 (nineteen years ago)

there is no connection between these two, is there? you may as well have TS bono vs lemar or something.

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:37 (nineteen years ago)

Well... I seen the streets live not to long ago not expecting much, however, they were brilliant. Supporting acts, Sway and Professor Green weren't up to much though.
Loved Lily Allen for a while then, just like most bands etc... I got a bit bored of listening to her.

E-Clex (E-Clex), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:39 (nineteen years ago)

'like most bands'... ritalin culture i calls it! getting bored with music you once liked should take LONGER THAN 4-5 MONTHS, no?

i think they do similar things these days though am not prepared to argue this point as i try to minimise the amount i think deeply about either appalling act

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:41 (nineteen years ago)

H, B's and M - I guess the band has to be something really good for that to be the case for me.

Ritalin Culture lol I like it

E-Clex (E-Clex), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:45 (nineteen years ago)

i think they're basically doing the same thing when it all boils down to it. i bet lily's next album is a narrative. I love the first two Streets albums and loathe the last one - oh god how did it all go so wrong? I like Lily's album a lot but don't really ever seem to be in the mood to hear it somehow. She was very good live at Clapham Common the other week though and yes she can sing pretty darn well outside the studio.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:45 (nineteen years ago)

eh?

great that she can sing well out of the studio. if only she could do that *inside* the studio!

the fellas know what i'm talking about.

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:46 (nineteen years ago)

there is a vague similiarity in their 'honest, if dreary, tales of british urban yoot' schtick.

I vote lily because I feel sorry for her, having been burdened with the UK's foremost self-aggrandising and pointless arsenugget as a dad.

oh, and because skinner makes some of the worst records this world has ever known.

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:48 (nineteen years ago)

Speaking of Sway, god is he shit live or what? Saw him at Rise Festival in Finsbury Park (it's a free festival, kinda rock against racism thing) and it was like a 45 minute ego-jackoff. It really put me off him as I'd gone out and bought his album on the strength of the Mitchell Brothers cameo on "Harvey Nicks". He kept stopping tracks halfway through and asking the audience stupid questions like "Who here owns my second single?" "Hands up who's from Southend" "Who 'ere's heard of the Mitchell Brothers". The crowd were just plain confused since most of them didn't even know who Sway was, let alone what his second single sounded like.
Anyway he started performing his section of "Harvey Nicks" and made the DJ stop playing so he could rap it acapella because "people weren't getting into it", y'know as if the oh-so-funny lyrics were meant to have us roffling all over the park.

enrique - self-penned whiteboy/girl singing/rapping about personal sub/urban shenanigans over two-tone self-production. They are really similar.

Do you want a fight or something?

wogan lenin (dog latin), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:53 (nineteen years ago)

streets and lallen are both marketed on the same basis (which is that they are Real and Honest but are not The Other)

seen sway live twice. at the jazz café he was magnificent, at tdk he was not (but that was because he was playing sunday 1am to a bare handful of rave kids too wasted to really appreciate him. he's got great charisma on stage.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

skinner "two-tone"?????

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:54 (nineteen years ago)

o'boy, lex made it racial now.

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

lex - yeh, i reckon sway'd have been better in a setting where people knew his stuff. plus he said he had nearly not made it to the festival due to illness so maybe that affected him a bit. he just seemed deluded and it was a bit embarrasing in the end.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

skinner "two-tone"?????

casiotone demo, more like.

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:55 (nineteen years ago)

skinner "two-tone"?????

uh, yes. have you actually listened to any of his music or what?

wogan lenin (dog latin), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:56 (nineteen years ago)

'let's push things forward' is ONE track.

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

FIVE YEARS AGO

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Thursday, 14 September 2006 09:57 (nineteen years ago)

yes and lily allen has only released one album and only about three tracks on there do the ska thing, but it's a very similar aesthetic and idea as the first streets album.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Thursday, 14 September 2006 10:05 (nineteen years ago)

'Snot what I heard Enrique...

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 14 September 2006 10:10 (nineteen years ago)

oh i've only heard 'ldn' and 'smile' (hopefully it will stay that way).

xpost

haha oh yeah i forgot that.

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Thursday, 14 September 2006 10:11 (nineteen years ago)

oh yeh, me too.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Thursday, 14 September 2006 11:03 (nineteen years ago)

Of course there's a link between the two... from Popbitch:

"You may or may not know that one of Lily
Allen's best friends is the beautiful t4
presenter Miquita Oliver. A couple of years
ago, Miquita was seeing The Streets' Mike
Skinner and told Lily she was missing him,
as Skinner was performing in Japan. She
wasn't aware at the time that Lily had
flown out to Tokyo for 24 hours to shag him."

Rombald (rombald), Thursday, 14 September 2006 11:35 (nineteen years ago)

what's the point of flying halfway across the world to shag mike skinner when there are a hundred clones of him on every high street?

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Thursday, 14 September 2006 11:41 (nineteen years ago)

But they would not be famous.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 14 September 2006 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

they might be if they shagged lily allen.

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:01 (nineteen years ago)

Lily, because she had the good taste to sample Professor Longhair.

Jim M (jmcgaw), Thursday, 14 September 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

wake me up when they're both dead.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 14 September 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

who needs them when there's paris hilton, amirite

gear (gear), Thursday, 14 September 2006 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not qualified to answer in general, but

littlest things > dry your eyes

The Vintner's Lipogram (OleM), Thursday, 14 September 2006 20:51 (nineteen years ago)

i have not heard that song but seriously every single song in the world >>>>>> 'dry your eyes'. lallen does not come close to that horror.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 15 September 2006 07:26 (nineteen years ago)

truer words were rarely spoken. skinner is a psychic vampire, here to suck out our ambition and lower our expectations.

mister the guanoman (mister the guanoman), Friday, 15 September 2006 07:39 (nineteen years ago)

and Lily Allen is a cute and feisty girlie.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 15 September 2006 07:56 (nineteen years ago)

she's malignant.

a rapper singing about hos and bitches and money (Enrique), Friday, 15 September 2006 07:58 (nineteen years ago)

i like dry your eyes and littlest things. they're genuinely affecting.
