"groove is in the heart"! b-52s have much better songs than "love shack."

john david bootyflake (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

someone would have to really love love shack to pick love shack. i wonder who that person will be?

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

my fave b's song from that era = "deadbeat club."

john david bootyflake (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:09 (nineteen years ago)

Agreed with John David Bootyflake! Also, 'Groove is in the Heart' has Bootsy Collins playing bass, and Love Shack... doesn't.

Rombald (rombald), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:14 (nineteen years ago)

Love Shack, though both are great songs.

graf cycliz (graf cycliz), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

"love shack" is a better singalong. but "groove is in the heart" is easier to dance to. but, i also agree, the b-52s have way better songs, so "groove" wins. is there anything else by deelite worth checking out? i don't know anything but that song.

Emily B (Emily B), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:22 (nineteen years ago)

the album that groove is on is really good.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

groove is better than almost anything.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:25 (nineteen years ago)

i love "what is love" from that album. and pretty much everything else.

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

scott otm, also s1ocki otm

john david bootyflake (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

"Groove" is really fun, and the B's do maybe have better songs, but "Love Shack" has this one in the bag. Great singalong fun, and one of Fred Schneider's best milkings of his schtick. "It's as big as a WHAAAAAAAALE!" Guarantee you that it's the most fun duet you'll find in any karaoke binder, too.

Doctor Casino (Doctor Casino), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:32 (nineteen years ago)

jody picks deadbeat club, but i think roam is my fave single from that album.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 17 September 2006 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

roam is my favorite too

love shack isnt even the 30th best b52s song, whereas groove is in the heart is the pinnacle of human civ

katie quirk (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

groove is the clear winner (even a non dance dude can recognize that) but i think if love shack hadn't been played to death to the point of "party cliche" a la "celebrate" then it would be close

timmy tannin (pompous), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

groove is in the heart -vs- theme from s express -vs- bring me edelweiss -vs- good life

(i would have a hard time with that one)

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

(just thinking of my most played singles from 1988 to 1990)

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

i think i would still go with groove is in the heart!

katie quirk (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

groove > good life > sexpress > edelweiss

katie quirk (dubplatestyle), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

"Groove is in the Heart," easy. There's better songs (and singles) on Cosmic Thing. Glad to see some love for World Clique though.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

god, i do love edelweiss. i might have to go with groove too actually out of those four. when i'm in the right mood though good life can seem unstoppable to me. (or the one remix on the 12 inch that i like the most. don't ask me which one. i know it when i hear it.) groove in in the heart is one of those songs that you hear and you just start drooling and saying "what is that and where can i get some!!??"

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

I remember seeing the "Bring Me Edelweiss" single. If anyone wants to share it with me...

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Sunday, 17 September 2006 18:58 (nineteen years ago)

i would if i could! you can probably find it on one of your netwebstreem thingys.

scott seward (scott seward), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:01 (nineteen years ago)

"Theme From S'Express" has NOT aged well.

"What Is Love" >>>>>>> "Groove Is In the Heart", but "Deadbeat Club" >> "Love Shack", so B-52s are my winners.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 17 September 2006 19:39 (nineteen years ago)

Roam.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Sunday, 17 September 2006 22:51 (nineteen years ago)

Revelation: the B-52s should have covered "(My Love Is Like A) Heat Wave." Just imagine Fred (shadowed by the girls) hollering out "Heat WAAAAAAAAVE!" the way he does "whale" in this song! So great!

Doctor Casino (Doctor Casino), Sunday, 17 September 2006 23:50 (nineteen years ago)

I listened to "Deadbeat Club" like five times last night, that thing is a work of genius

Thomas Tallis (Tommy), Monday, 18 September 2006 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

groove is in the heart

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 18 September 2006 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

the gals on deadbeat club are above and beyond wonderful.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 18 September 2006 00:37 (nineteen years ago)

These are probably two of my ten favourite singles ever. "Groove..." probably JUST pips "Love Shack". But only just.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Monday, 18 September 2006 08:02 (nineteen years ago)

Groove - no contest, buckets of cool compared to Love Shack. Just think, which would you rather have; groove in the heart or some stinkin' old love shack? It would be a total chore to clean I'll bet. World Clique rocks btw.

lexurian (lexurian), Monday, 18 September 2006 10:20 (nineteen years ago)

'groove is in the heart'. they are both great but this was quite an easy choice.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 18 September 2006 10:31 (nineteen years ago)

I hate Love Shack and Rock Lobster so can someone tell me some songs by the b52s that I might actually like, or is all lost for Rowlando?!

Rowlando for the kidz (Sam Rowlands), Monday, 18 September 2006 11:12 (nineteen years ago)

don't think there's much hope for you there

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 18 September 2006 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

If in the years to come the nuclear age truly does dawn and all of civilization is wiped out, if all that remains is one lonely cassingle of "Groove Is In The Heart", it will all have been worth it.

BEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Irritating overplayed rubbish. Both of them.

Bidfurd (Bidfurd), Monday, 18 September 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

i loathe "love Shack".

jed_ (jed), Monday, 18 September 2006 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

groove is much much better than love shack

mango selassie (teenagequiet), Monday, 18 September 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

The best Cosmic Thing-era song = "Bushfire" or "Channel Z"

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Monday, 18 September 2006 20:05 (nineteen years ago)

(PS: "Groove" by a bunch of miles even though I luv "Love Shack")

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Monday, 18 September 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

You lot probably think 'Pump up the Volume' is dead good too.

Bidfurd (Bidfurd), Monday, 18 September 2006 20:15 (nineteen years ago)

Of course we do! We're not stupid!

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Monday, 18 September 2006 20:21 (nineteen years ago)

The song or the movie? Either way YES I HAVE TEH LOVE.

a naked Kraken annoying Times Square tourists with an acoustic guitar (nickalici, Monday, 18 September 2006 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

easily, without thought, Groove Is In the Heart.
if for nothing else but the Q-Tip part

edde (edde), Monday, 18 September 2006 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sticking up for "Love Shack." And I have never understood ILM's seemingly universal love for "Deadbeat Club."

Alex in Baltimore (Alex in Baltimore), Monday, 18 September 2006 23:08 (nineteen years ago)

TS: one of my most loathed songs vs one of my favorite. the fact that the b52s ever even existed makes me weep for humanity.

oops (Oops), Monday, 18 September 2006 23:38 (nineteen years ago)

I bring my jukebox money for "Groove is in the Heart."

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Monday, 18 September 2006 23:41 (nineteen years ago)

"Love Shack" is one of those awful moments that really, really make me wonder about the B-52's. Then I hear "Girl From Ipanema Goes to Greenland" or "Dance This Mess Around" and all is right again.

I have never understood ILM's seemingly universal love for "Deadbeat Club."

I don't really get that, either; I think Kate's head voice sounds really ugly on the chorus to that song.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

Groove, by a mile.

"Theme From S'Express" has NOT aged well.

Yes, it HAS.

Teh littlest HoBBo (the pirate king), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 20:06 (nineteen years ago)

"Cosmic Thing" is a much better party-up tune than "Love Shack."

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 20:28 (nineteen years ago)

I'd have a harder time picking between "Roam" and "Groove Is In The Heart". In this case, it is easily the latter.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Wednesday, 20 September 2006 07:43 (nineteen years ago)

This is a fantastic idea for a TS thread. Let me think a little more about this. I can't decide right now.

Dare Of The Hog (Bimble...), Sunday, 24 September 2006 06:51 (nineteen years ago)

take your time

s1ocki (slutsky), Sunday, 24 September 2006 14:08 (nineteen years ago)

one year passes...

Oh, man, I never commented on my own thread. Well, in any case, I think the answer is obvious: "Love Shack" by a fucking mile.

Not that I'm trying to diminish the five-star glory that is "Groove Is in the Heart." Groove Is in the Heart is tight and controlled, without any wasted space, but I have nothing but admiration for The B-52's dedication to throwing each and every idea they had onto the canvas. "Love Shack" is a fucking mess, and I love it all the more for it.

"Groove"

Surprise Comeback Single vs. One-Hit-Wonder --- gotta give it to the b52s

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 12:41 (eighteen years ago)

I think the answer is obvious: "Love Shack" by a fucking mile

The answer is indeed obvious, "Groove" by a light year

Tom D., Tuesday, 27 November 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

Groove isn't shit, so an easy one.

(disclaimer: the B52s are not shit)

Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

Groove Is In The Heart = better than the sum of it's parts/tracks it rips off
Love Shack = nice pastiche but they were better ten years prior

blueski, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

groove wins easily. i never knew bootsy actually played on it, i always thought it was the beginning of his "i'll appear in anything" phase. "ah, make the check out to bootsy, baby."

"Groove is in the Heart," because the sight of a 3-year-old girl singing along to it in a shoe store made me smile.

Jazzbo, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

love shack has been ruined by karaoke bars, for me

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

I got me a cahr and its as bigaza WHALE and itz about to SET SAIL!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually "Groove" by a long ways-- "Roam" or "Deadbeat" might have given it a run.
