is the new Beck album "The Information" going under the radar?

I couldn't find any threads on it yet.

Oct. 3 is the release date. Has the album leaked?

Anyway, it's supposed to be a "hip hop album" and he's released three or four internet videos to songs from the album. Anyone have anything to say about this?

Gear's so excited about the new Beck album he can't even post a picture properly.

Sadly, he will be the next Alexis Petridish. (Dom Passantino), Monday, 18 September 2006 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

jaxon (jaxon), Monday, 18 September 2006 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

I fear you may be disappointed if precedent has anything to say; the last track of The Secret Machines' latest album was called '1000 Seconds', so I put it on expecting a 16:40 epic masterpiece, only to find that it was actually only 5:15 in length. :(

Still a great song though. :-)

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Monday, 18 September 2006 19:45 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe if he wanted us to notice, he shouldn't have released so much crap.

A-ron Hubbard (Hurting), Monday, 18 September 2006 19:47 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I mean, Guero was practically unforgiveable from the same dude who released Mutations, Midnite Vultures and Mellow Gold (hell, Odelay and Sea Change as well, but not quite so fervently).

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Monday, 18 September 2006 19:50 (eighteen years ago)

There's a leak going around with six songs: I Think I'm in Love, Cell Phone's Dead (already posted on his site awhile back), Nausea, Strange Apparition, We Dance Alone and Motorcade.

I haven't heard any of it yet except for Cell Phone's Dead, which samples/reprises "Chameleon" and is a Pretty Standard Beck Song.

It's a Jerry tribute, replete with NatKing/Nathalie Cole duet technology in full-swing. It's rating very high on the e-meters I've seen.

four the record, the first two or three mission earth books are deliberately trashy, hilarious parodies of everything right and good. then he died and the ghostwriters took over. and then they each spent thousands of dollars buying the books, to keep them in the bestseller list!

I heard 'Golden Age' this morning while eating breakfast in local foodery, and I do say: that track is gorgeous. Most Beck is teh suck, it is true. But the early early stuff, Mutations and 'Golden Age' will always be good. And maybe Mellow Gold, when I feel like becoming a 10-year-old again.

_One Foot In The Grave_ is totally underrated. _Stereopathic Soul Manure_ is totally fairlyrated.

I like the the cover other than the "Beck" font. Would have preferred it written small on the giant's thigh.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 04:28 (eighteen years ago)

If I remember right, the cover is blank and the CD comes with a bunch of stickers. Arrange them however you want, as shown above.

You gotta hand it to L. Ron Hubbard - any of those would be great record titles. Come on. The Book Introducing the E-Meter? The Invaders Plan?

Eazy (Eazy), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 04:30 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah Easy I was just about to post:
Wait, isn't this the cover that's going to come as blank but with a bunch of stickers? And all the sticker sets will be different or something? So that's just one of many possibilities.

(being, apart from The Golden Age, the two best tracks on the album, Charlie)

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 11:25 (eighteen years ago)

yep, those are definitely the top 3. amazing how obvious it becomes when scrolling the tracklist

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 11:28 (eighteen years ago)

well, they're the only ones I've five-starred on iTunes. if that means anything.

dammit beck did you learn nothing from 'mutations'? or were you not a hubbard-clone psychlo-hatin' muppet at that point? Cold Brains and Diamond Bollocks (not to mention UK bonus track Runners Dial Zero) were the way forward, and you so proudly shunned that way.

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

Nigel (Nigel), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

Great cover. And props for mentioned "Diamond Bollocks," it's neat and it totally takes _Mutations_ from great to one of the best psychedelic records of all time. Alwayx wondered why he left it as a hidden track, but whatever, the man's got his own vision.

Squirrel_Police (Squirrel_Police), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 18:40 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, I'm actually enjoying these clips! Granted, I liked "Guero" and "E-Pro" on first listen but quickly got to the point where I felt no urge whatsoever to buy Guero... but these, I dunno, they sound interesting and textured in a way that feels like they'll continue to grow on me. The "Guero" tracks all felt like one-trick surface-over-substance ponies. Will there be a vinyl of this?

Doctor Casino (Doctor Casino), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

xpost: It's not a bonus track in Britain, and, as I've said, he hits us afterwards with the astonishing (easily the most out-there and uncharacteristic Beck track there is) Runners Dial Zero, which serves as an even apter (and just as psychedelic) album closer.

He clearly likes us more.

Space Gourmand (Haberdager), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

So the album was made before Guero and with Nigel Godrich. For some reason, I get much more of a Guero vibe from these songs than I do a Mutations or Sea Change, which were two of his best albums and produced by Godrich. I would love to hear more of that style, I'll take "Cold Brains" and "The Golden Age" over "E-Pro"...

edde (edde), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 22:38 (eighteen years ago)

Runners Dial Zero? Damn do I feel deprived. I'll probably end up buying that british version. which is major, besides the dollar bin i only buy a handful of cds a year, nowadays.

Insincere fast-tempo Beck is more interesting than pretty acoustic "honest" Beck.

So:

Mutations >>>> Sea Change

This album is considerably better than I thought it would be. Superficially, it's not much different from Guero, except it's a little mellower, a little more electro, not as frat-anthemic.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 29 September 2006 17:40 (eighteen years ago)

I've only heard selected tracks so far, but I really like the song "I Think I'm in Love." The piano lightly jabbing over the chorus is a compelling moment, for me. The song has this retro-80s feel except for a 30 second bridge beginning at about the 1:35 mark, which sounds like the best parts of 70s soft rock (to me, at least).
