This is pure Basement Jaxx derived club velveeta with over-diva-izing guy singing all over, but this track is fucking classic.

The video is fucking ridiculous, not really in a good way, though.

Who is The Egg?

the dow nut industrial average dead joe mama besser (donut), Monday, 18 September 2006 22:06 (nineteen years ago)

don't really like the vocals he shoved over the top of the Tocadisco mix of the original Egg track. obv. it's a mash-up and he's just the middleman!

The Egg

the original Tocadisco mix (sans vocals) gained popularity via this advert in the UK

Thank you Doddz! I was browsing through the Guetta stuff on iTunes and didn't think much of it aside from this track, and now i know why.. i was looking up the wrong side of the equation.

and while I'd completely understand being annoyed by the vox if you heard the instrumental first, I didn't.. heard this on the radio with vocals first.. I really like the vocals for the most part.. sure, it's just garnish, and the multiple layers which happen annoy a bit, but it works well with the song as a whole.

aaaargh horrible and dud!

(i love the original instrumental but the vocals just DO NOT WORK.)

(it is not quite as bad as the utter HORROR which is fox'n'wolf massacring christopher just's 'popper' by doing some fucking lame indie-rap shouting over it, i can't hear what they're saying but presumably it is along the lines of "hi we are complete losers who are completely ignorant of the fundamental concept of rhythm")

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 07:24 (nineteen years ago)

Isn't the original mix (i.e. before Tocadisco remixed it) of the Egg track kind of drippy? Which would sort of make the right side of the equation the one that doesn't even get a mention in the thread (track?) title...

Though I am geographically obliged to say nice things about the Egg.

As far as the vocals go, every time I decide they don't work there's a bit where they fit perfectly, and every time I decide maybe it does work after all it derails itself again and I want the original back. Dud, on balance.

weren't the egg that mid-90s synth revival band who were a bit like gus gus?

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 08:22 (nineteen years ago)

good track. very overplayed. terrible vocal. why do they feel the need to ruin perfectly good instrumental dance music by adding cheesy insipid vocals over the top a la "Doctor Pressure"?

Yeah... it's kind of blowing my mind that in 2006, they're being enjoyed by anyone, let alone people who bathe

For sheer "what have they DONE to you?!" horror, nothing beats the single version of Cosmos's Take Me With You which had Roachford singing over the top.

This all reminds me of Ronan's 'lyrics to Strings Of Life' post that I now can't find for the life of me.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 09:00 (nineteen years ago)

don't be dissin' Roachford.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 09:06 (nineteen years ago)

in fact why had no-one done a Haircut House version of 'Cuddly Toy' yet?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 09:07 (nineteen years ago)

roachford... wasn't he sydney youngblood?

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 10:06 (nineteen years ago)

they all look alike to you eh?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 10:59 (nineteen years ago)

The synth-riffy instrumental chorus to this is exactly what I think of when I think of "Haircut House" - that stuttery arpeggio sound (reminiscent of Black Strobe's "Fitting Together") is huge among Aussie commercial electro-house producers.

D: This shit is vile.

No, I'm sure I heard someone say that's who he was. Or was it Haddaway?

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 11:09 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I think Roachford was Australian possibly! He was certainly out here a lot and v. successful.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 11:13 (nineteen years ago)

sydney youngblood came back as someone with just a single surname-y name anyway.

wogan lenin (dog latin), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

pretty sure Roachford was British.

Konal Doddz (blueski), Tuesday, 19 September 2006 11:31 (nineteen years ago)
