I never know the answers to your questions but your threads always make me smile. Plus, I learn stuff!

Vacuum tubes are almost invariably used as amplifiers, if that helps. Same as a tube amp for guitar.

pre-amp?

here we go:

Adding power to TRITON Extreme's internal sounds is a 12AU7 dual-triode vacuum tube -- a first for a keyboard instrument. Korg's Valve Force circuitry can be used as an insert effect, or applied to the final outputs for added warmth, fullness, and power. External sources can also be sampled through the Valve Force circuitry for a distinctive 'tube' quality. A new Ultra Boost feature pumps up the bottom end of the sound without muddying it.

korg puts that in the electribe EMX-1 and ESX-1 as well. it's not that exciting, really.

"Adding power to TRITON Extreme's internal sounds is a 12AU7 dual-triode vacuum tube -- a first for a keyboard instrument."

how is this different from what you would find in a tube organ?

What about an keyboard you can blow air into to make the sounds?

Aka melodica.

winner. in the "most insanely dangerous sounding instrument" stakes, at least (although the theory behind it sounds much worse when you're using it to describe a keyboard than when using it to describe a car).

replace it with a NOS mullard for extra smoothness and warmth

A mullard sounds like shorthand for 'mullet retard'

They've been putting tubes in the Korg boxes (the Electribe etc) for years now:

I always assumed it was for the distortion effect. But regardless, VALVE FORCE is pretty funny.

Hmm, try this instead:
