robert anderson (venimdenim), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 00:25 (nineteen years ago)

The Guided by Voices cover is pleasant enough I guess. But the rest is totally meh.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 01:10 (nineteen years ago)

that 1st song was alright, now it's seeming kinda downhill, from track 6 on. sort of samesongy to me..oh, well.

edde (edde), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 01:16 (nineteen years ago)

Now this is the album that deserves all those bad reviews "Worlds Apart" got.

M. V. (M.V.), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 01:54 (nineteen years ago)

Not impressed so far. Conrad's vocals sound pretty different.

Harpal (harpal), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 05:48 (nineteen years ago)

Kind of sounds like a side-project to me.

Harpal (harpal), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 05:53 (nineteen years ago)

MV OTM. It's just... unlistenable. What a horrible album, horrible (vocal)sound, and horrible horrible music.
Who are these guys and what have they done to Trail of Dead?

Gerard (Gerard), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 09:24 (nineteen years ago)

it's World's Apart:part 2-the Worsening

edde (edde), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 12:54 (nineteen years ago)

Euai Kapaui (tracerhand), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

there doesn't seem to be much love

No one is going to be divided over this piece of crap.

MRZBW (MRZBW), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

"No one is going to be divided over this piece of crap."

*rimshot*

edde (edde), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

god, this is just so bad...i put this in my car this morning ready to rock out with the windows down and the volume up!...i actually turned it down and rolled up my windows in embarrassment!...it's almost like they are just playing a sick joke on their fans (or that conrad just doesn't really give a shit about his fans anymore)...i remember when elena's tomb came out and thought "man, i'm not so sure about this"...i wish they would come out with something as good as elena's tomb...anyway, a name change is definitely in order, since this album is about as milquetoast as it gets...i suggest "...and you will know us by the trail of jellybeans"

robert anderson (venimdenim), Thursday, 5 October 2006 01:31 (nineteen years ago)

How is this unlistenable? Its listenability is possibility its biggest fault. They revved up the pop!

regular roundups (Dave M), Thursday, 5 October 2006 02:08 (nineteen years ago)

Suggested new band names:

...and you will claim you did not know us
...and now we will take a wittle afternoon nap

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Thursday, 5 October 2006 17:35 (nineteen years ago)

I've only listened to Wasted State of Mind and I like it. Sonically, it doesn't really sound like anything else out there. They seem more full on prog now. I've never been a huge fan of the band so I don't really get the whole backlash against them by people who seem to have seriously overrated them to begin with (I mean, they're lyrics were always pretentious crap - although admitedly harder to decipher on the earlier stuff).

Reading this billboard article, I sort of feel sorry for them. It seems like with the advance buzz on this one being worse that Worlds Apart (which isn't really that bad), it's really going to drive them into retirement.

Jacobo Rock (jacobo rock), Thursday, 5 October 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, that's one of the 'better' tracks, but that's a standout amongst the piano driven drivel...
see, here's my beef ST&C's was SO good, and even Elaina's Tomb had some great tracks, that i felt pretty stoked about what they did next. then, roughly 1/2 of WA was very prog, which isn't always bad, but w/ them, it's terrible (some may say it's ALL terrible or that all of ToD's output's awful).
so, continue on this course was just plain dumb, esp. if Conrad was that appalled @ the way it was recieved!

edde (edde), Thursday, 5 October 2006 18:07 (nineteen years ago)

Jeez, I just listened to two other tracks which are... yes, completely unlistenable. Previous comment withdrawn.

Jacobo Rock (jacobo rock), Thursday, 5 October 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

What the hell were they thinking when they made Naked Sun?

MRZBW (MRZBW), Thursday, 5 October 2006 18:56 (nineteen years ago)

wtf does "prog" mean in regard to this. haven't heard WA, but this seems like the most MOR stuff I've heard from them. the production isn't anything totally new or different (don't get how this sounds like nothing else out there), but the songs are pretty pleasant, and that's not a damning thing in this case. if anything it's just a little too simply pleasant, all right there, fairly obvious, a poor attentive listen but a good one in the background.

seriously, are your ears functioning properly? is Travis "prog?" is Coldplay completely unlistenable (completely repulsive and actually unlistenable are two goddamned different things)? even if you all shared only one collective brain it would be enough to hear that this record is pretty much none of the things you are saying about it.

regular roundups (Dave M), Friday, 6 October 2006 06:40 (nineteen years ago)

prog=lots of pianos+synths+strings+no rawk.
travis=prog?! that's funny!!!!
and yes, Coldplay is unlistenable. to me.

edde (edde), Friday, 6 October 2006 12:47 (nineteen years ago)

Holy shit. I liked Worlds Apart so I figured all the hate for this album was unjustified, but I just heard "Naked Sun" and I want to die. Jesus Christ...listen to "Days of Being Wild" and "Naked Sun" back to back. How is it even the same band?

Lee is Free (Lee is Free), Friday, 6 October 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

...and you will remember us by our first 2 1/2 albums
.......................
...and you will...eh, fuck it

Zachary Scott (Zach S), Friday, 6 October 2006 16:17 (nineteen years ago)

source tags and codes is golden
most of madonna is gold also
elena was a little bit of a worry
worlds apart was a horribly missasembled afair
this new one seems very misguided...
