Wiltshire is only one county along though.

Yeah, but it *was* only 10 mins from my house before.

"But we have to accept that there are commercial pressures on Womad and also, simply, things move on."

I thought the whole point of WOMAD was there are NO commercial pressures. They're always banging on about not having any adverts or sponsorship etc.

Well, you won't be kept awake by the world's biggest bongo challenge any more.

It is a shame for Reading, really, that it has to move.

It was on the same site as the Reading, sorry, Carling Weekender Festival, wasn't it? Surely that's big enough.

But WOMAD is lovely and cuddly and hippy and would rather give people room to breath, while Reading fest is a horrible place that people are gonna be killed at before long.

Yeah!

Could someone move Reading Festival to somewhere close but not too close? Instead?

Just to put some perspective, 40,000 is seen as too large for reading womad, but Carling pack 60,500 into the same space, and they're expanding that for next year. Along with the already unruly crowds, unhelpful staff and constriction, it's all gonna go wrong. Mind you, I could say the same for most festivals - I'm looking at you, T in the Park!

Didn't seem to be much danger of anyone being killed while I was there. Not that I wish to defend them. The setting seems a bit bleak for WOMAD though.

The latest news: The Reading Evening Post has decided to try and do their own festival in its place, and have asked Feargal Sharkey to curate etc..

I should add "That's not the caption to that picture" there.

It certainly looks different to the Carling Weekender.
