Nothing band, sub-Jesus Jones alternarock verse, but then the chourus hits, like a evil version of Abba: "Drop Dead Gorgeous" by Republica.

Misfits - Where Eagles Dare

dave q (listerine), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:32 (nineteen years ago)

Umm what about pretty much every Misfits song ever?

Also I think the verses and chorus of "Maneater" by Nelly Furtado are totally incongruous in a really good way.

owen moorhead (i heart daniel miller), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

Not sure if it comes out of nowhere, but the chorus of the Bee Gees "Black Diamond" always struck me as particularly HUGE.

Life in a Northern Town

The chorus comes surprisingly out of nowhere, yes, but the verse is a lot better. Likewise with "Caught Out There".

A Design For Life--Manic Street Preachers

kornrulez6969 (TCBeing), Friday, 6 October 2006 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

Hardly the only case of a Manics song with a rather boring verse and a brilliant chorus.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 6 October 2006 23:45 (nineteen years ago)

spiritualized - medication
talk talk - desire (although the verse is still brilliant)
mclusky - slay!

ride - seagull, kaleidoscope, in a different place, polar bear, dreams burn down, decay, paralysed, vapour trail

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Friday, 6 October 2006 23:56 (nineteen years ago)

"Electric Blue" is #1 with a fucking bullet in this thread. Talk about a song that saves it all for the chorus--the dude barely even bothers to mumble through the 12-measure verses, but man does he sell that chorus. "Blasphemous Rumours" is a great call too.

Blink-182 - "Stay Together for the Kids"
Left Banke - "Walk Away Renee"
Super Furry Animals - "She's Got Spies"

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Saturday, 7 October 2006 00:08 (nineteen years ago)

And "She's Got Spies" is certainly a good call as well.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Saturday, 7 October 2006 00:12 (nineteen years ago)

Jeffrey Osborne - "You Should be Mine(Woo Woo Song)". the chorus isn't actually that good, but it comes out of nowhere.

The Notwist - "Pilot"

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 7 October 2006 03:37 (nineteen years ago)

never did quite embrace blasphemous rumours. too many sylables in the chorus or something. gahan's sounding a little posh on that one as well
