Why do all TV shows like Later with Jools Holland and Friday Night with Jonathan Ross only book artistes with managers and/or agents?
Obviously lazines but what are their other reasons?
Also why do programmes (both TV & Radio) have the same people on. eg Barrymore was on ITV Good Morning, Radio 5, Graham Norton and goodness knows what else the other day.
If I was a producer of a programme I would want some who has NOT been on ALL the other stations/rivals shows that week. Then we might programmes with guests who are varied and new.
In the words of Terry Wogan - Is it me?

lazines

I was too overcome by laziness to complete typing the word

That's why you need managers and agents - to finish the job.

The difficulty:

'artistes' (Catch-all term = celebrity)...

Start again:

Artistes are like you&me in that if they are not actually working, they don't want to. If their agent says "Next week, you'll be doing TV shows" they say "OK".

So agent rings progs or vice versa and says "I got him, and her, and her. What you think?"
Producer: "I'd like him deffo. And her. Not her though"
Agent: "If you want him, and her, you have to take her as well." Prod: "OK, we'll have her tomorrow, and him next week with some lead up ads"

Meantime, Producer might think "Wow wouldn't it be great if we could get "*Him*"...

Rings "*Him*"
But he's at home in bed/w-Girlfriend, or lunching, etc... "*Fuck Off!"

Producer rings *His* agent. Agent says "He's not doing publicity at the moment.

Basically, it's not laziness it's more pure difficulty. Unless Producer (Or Star of show) knows *Him* personally, or is owed a favour, it's not going to happen.

"not actually working, they don't want to" that's a little harsh.

Kenneth Spiers (spizz.eu), Thursday, 5 October 2006 09:18 (nineteen years ago)

Why? If you work 9 to 5, you don't necessarily want to work late. Or give up yr saturday or whatever.

Artists who don't work 9 to 5 can only choose their work if they have enough "FUCK YOU money" as Kubrick aptly put it.

This is why you see so much of Rowland Rivron, Martin "Chariots" Offiah and other moderately well-known citizens with last month's credit card bill to pay.

I saw Alan Cumming on Charlotte Church's show yesterday.

She must be pimping for a big star name shortly!

Is Alan Cumming the gay the same as the Alan Cumming who translates Keiji Haino albums?

Maybe this should be a separate thread, sorry.

No, two different Cummings.

Keiji Haino Sings Victor And Barry is a record I would pay substantial money to hear.

Perhaps Barrymore was promoting something, so he was doing the "circuit".

His autobiography, to be precise.
