Apocalypse '07: Rodney Strikes Back (R. J. Greene), Friday, 6 October 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

The Tenacious D album.

Sick Mouthy (Nick Southall), Friday, 6 October 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

I really like their remix of "Snail Shell" by TMBG. But that's pretty secondary to, like, "Shake Your Rump" or "Where It's At."

'Chemical Beats' lolz

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 6 October 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

'paul's boutique', boringly.

I gotta agree with Rodney.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 6 October 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

Fight Club

Badrock Example (Barima), Friday, 6 October 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

I love Odelay but have to side with Paul's as well. "Sounds of Science" has that Beatles-on-Beatles junk that still kind of blows me away every time.

treechewer (Maximillions), Friday, 6 October 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

Paul's Boutique no contest

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 6 October 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

this seems as good a place as any to check but is that really good bit in 'B-Boy Bouillabaisse' sampling Isley Brothers 'Who's That Lady?'

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 6 October 2006 15:08 (nineteen years ago)

Didn't they produce a Vince Neil solo album?

Anyway, I like "MMMBop" a lot.

"is that really good bit in 'B-Boy Bouillabaisse' sampling Isley Brothers 'Who's That Lady?'"

That's the basis of the "disco dave" segment, yes.

sixteen years pass...

learned today catching up on stereogum's "the number ones" column that these guys produced "mmmbop." what a world

I’ve always wanted to hear their demos that the Beastie Boys flipped out over in 1988

beamish13, Friday, 13 January 2023 15:03 (three years ago)

Loc-ed After Dark has such great production

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 13 January 2023 15:26 (three years ago)

xxp Yeah, that was crazy. I didn't know that until years after the fact, but Odelay and "Mmmbop" came out at roughly the same time (maybe a year apart). I guess that's what a great producer traditionally does though - unless it's an auteur producer like Phil Spector or Brian Eno or Daniel Lanois, they're very much at the service of the material and if it's that different, they don't try to change things to make them have something like the same identity.

birdistheword, Friday, 13 January 2023 16:37 (three years ago)

until re-listening along with the column, i never noticed the wicky wicky record scratches - def feels like a dust brothers special

sault bae (voodoo chili), Friday, 13 January 2023 16:42 (three years ago)

explains the Rose Royce sample

verhexen, Saturday, 14 January 2023 07:26 (three years ago)

See also their production of "Saint of Me" for the Stones around the same time ... classic Dust Brothers drum loops.

The Deep Dish remixes also worth a look

imperial frfr (Steve Shasta), Sunday, 29 June 2025 15:32 (ten months ago)

the Pauls Boutique 33 1/3 is one of the better of the series IMO
