I (illegally) own a copy (in mp3 format)!

I like it too.

It's a grower. By year's end, I have a feeling this will be one of my favorite albums.

Jeff K (jeff k), Friday, 6 October 2006 21:54 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, and it's very good.

I bought it last night. First couple of spins have been promising.

I've been streaming it off his website at the office most of this week. Pretty good, but not should sure whether to buy it.

Me, too. At first blush, it seems too restrained and mid-tempo. Maybe I'm only remembering a few songs.

it would sound great if i had a huge nice home in spain or something

Pretty much every song is memorable--not sure how smart it is to start off singing about being critically overlooked though (he does undercut it later of course.)

I'm warming to this. His cover of "I Am Waiting" is the immediate highlight.

I am really enjoying this CD. It's not exactly what I was expecting (although that would have been fine!).. It's more varied and it shows Lindsey exploring his musical influences. I like that it's a little more laid back and mixes acoustic and electric. I really recommend it!

"Not Too Late" is a rather odd song. He takes two hoary cliches -- an artist realizing The Miracle of Childbirth and feeling beleaguered by critics -- and creates this whispery semi-apologia for eccentric behavior, refracted through his childrens' point of view.

the more i listen to this the more it sounds like just a buncha really well produced demos

jaxon (jaxon), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 22:27 (nineteen years ago)

I think "Cast Away Dream" has emerged as my favorite. Monday night's show in the suburbs of Northern VA was life-affirming. My highlights were his evil cackle on "Tusk," the barking at the end of "Holiday Road," and a rendition of "I Know I'm Not Wrong" that rocked harder and faster than the recorded version.

John Fredland - the luckiest man on the planet.

Nice setlist! What else did he play, John?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Wednesday, 11 October 2006 23:46 (nineteen years ago)

among the highlights tuesday night in nyc: solo "trouble," solo "big love," solo "go insane," solo "never going back again," full-band "tusk" and full-band encore-by-request "save me a place," which he and his band clearly hadn't rehearsed, and clearly didn't even quite remember, and which as a result wasn't so good, but it was 100 percent charming, and, well, it was "save me a place"! people had been shouting out the usual requests throughout the set and he smiled at most of 'em and just went on with his thing. but the first time someone shouted out "save me a place," he put on a crooked grin, looked at his band and said, more or less, "maybe we'll try that one for an encore." and, lo and behold, for his last encore he looked around the stage and showed the rest of the band the chords (all three of 'em), and in the middle of the song offered some helpful advice to the other guitarists, such as, "chorus!"

oh, and i meant to add: his voice is in remarkably good shape and he remains a phenomenal finger-picking guitarist.

Thanks! :-) The NOVA setlist was mainly split between Fleetwood Mac and the new album, with three earlier solo songs thrown in (Trouble, Go Insane and Holiday Road).

Fleetwood Mac:
- So Afraid
- World Turning
- Second Hand News
- Never Going Back Again
- Go Your Own Way
- Tusk
- I Know I'm Not Wrong
- Big Love
- Red Rover
- Bleed To Love Her

Under The Skin
- Not Too Late
- Show You How
- Under The Skin
- It Was You
- Cast Away Dream

Very early in the set, someone shouted out "Buckingham Nicks!" Not missing a beat, Lindsey replied "that must be someone looking for it to come out on CD." He added that they were working on it.

John Fredland (jfredland), Thursday, 12 October 2006 09:29 (nineteen years ago)

I Know I'm Not Wrong??? You lucky BASTARDS.
