Who here will be attending? What bands should I see? What panels and panelists should I try and catch? How about parties - a man needs to get his drink on! And of course we have to actually report on what happened after it all does...

Obligatory Local Band Plug: Teeth Of The Hydra, amazing Columbus-based band that reinvents Stoner Rock as a Death Metal/Crust-Core derivative and will be playing the Tee Pee showcase at Northsix in Brooklyn on Tuesday and they should be doing an afternoon showcase the next day at Club Midway.

Obligatory Personal Plug: I am a panelist, which is really cool since I first attended CMJ back in 1989 so green and neive and eager to learn and now I get to impart some wisdom, or make an idiot of myself. Come and see which - it's the "Retail Success Outside of the Coalition System" panel taking place on Friday at 3:45 at Tower Records.

Found you: "Brian O’Neill, Metal Buyer/Promotions, Magnolia Thunderpussy"

Named after the burlesque dancer turned dessert chef?

Anyway, if I am able to go to anything, here's what:

Elvis Perkins (beautiful lyrics beautiful music, great great great band)
Tapes N Tapes (haven't seen, would like to check out)
These Arms Are Snakes (ditto)
The Brought Low (friends who are rockers)
Some Action (friends who are punks)
Earl Greyhound (sounds like an amazing 70s pop rock trio)
Haale (friends; persian vocal goddess with awesome band behind her, Dougie Bowne anyone?)
The Hunt (friends who are kinda goth-y I guess)
Kreisor (friends who are metal)
Oakley Hall (saw a really good show at Mercury of them, what would you call it? Rock and roll country pretty but badass? Vague, sorry)
Takka Takka (read a bit about them and am curious)
Dragons of Zynth (ditto)

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Sunday, 8 October 2006 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not going, but if i were, i'd see the White Rabbits. They formed here (in Columbia, MO) and moved to NYC over a year ago. I've loved all four songs that they've posted on myspace, and last I checked, they were good live. Now, they only have one song up: http://www.myspace.com/whiterabbits

I'm also excited to see that Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin made the main list; I used to make duct tape wallets for them. I'd definitely recommend their music.

I'd also see (the) Clipse, the Knife and Girl Talk.

Panelists? Chuck D, ICP and Paul Green!

Tape Store (Tape Store), Sunday, 8 October 2006 19:36 (nineteen years ago)

Panelists, I forgot to mention: Andy Aledort, John Agrello, Kyle Anderson, Doug Brod, Jon Cohen, Rob Harvilla, Joff Howe, Neksa Moody, Tim Westergren.

(Mostly just Andy Aledort though because I am kind of in love with Guitar World...)

Andi Headphones (Andi Headphones), Sunday, 8 October 2006 19:55 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going to be on a panel on the Saturday. Not 100% sure who else is on it at the moment, but I know Jessica Suarez is the moderator, and it's likely to include Amy Phillips and Maura Johnston.

Matthew Perpetua! (Matthew Perpetua!), Sunday, 8 October 2006 20:34 (nineteen years ago)

I am curious about the retail panels that are supposed to take place at Tower Records... Will the store even be open then?
