What Ever Happened to the Gandharvas?

They released 3 albums

Soap Bubble and Inertia
Kicking in the Water
Sold for a Smile

Their last album in 1998, Sold for a Smile" got some airplay in the United States with the song "Downtime". But they went nowhere.

Does anyone know what they have done since then?

We've discussed this a couple times, with keyth posting variants on that exact post every time. I don't know the albums but I think they were the most consistently enjoyable Canadian radio singles band of the 90s. Lightweight stuff but all those singles brighten my day when I hear them. I think Jago's voice is really cool. As far as I know they haven't done anything since the 90s but I could be wrong.

There were supposed to play this festival when I was 15 but they didn't show up to it. I always thought they sorta sounded like Jane's Addiction or something. Granted, "Downtime" for Canadian radio singles was still no "Hello, Time Bomb."

He sings a little like a more singerly Perry Farrell but the music doesn't sound much at all like Jane's, judging by the singles. Much lighter and poppier.

I think "Watching the Girl" is my favourite. I'm thinking of picking up Sold for a Smile.

Most of the members are still floating around London Ontario (and Toronto). Paul Jago does a little solo stuff now. He and some members played a free festival in London couple of summers ago (with the Mike Love's "Beach Boys"). I think he also opened a couple of times for Raised by Swans (The lead singer Eric Howden used to play bass in the Gandharvas).

Oh geez, I have so many memories of watching the video to "Watching the Girl" on Much Music at my friends house (as I didn't have it at my own) while sitting on is parent's waterbed. I was like I don't know 8 or something, what year did that song come out in?
