http://www.echoes.org/TimeWarped.html says these are the 10 essential space music albums:

10: Jean-Michel Jarre: Oxygene
9: Vangelis: Albedo 0.39
8: Redshift: Ether
7: Jonn Serrie: Planetary Chronicles Vol. 1
6: Tonto's Expanding Head Band: Zero Time
5: Steve Roach: Structures from Silence
4: Ash Ra Tempel: New Age of Earth
3: Michael Stearns: Planetary Unfolding
2: Klaus Schulze: X
1: Tangerine Dream: Phaedra

Then they say these are the top contemporary space albums:

John Lakveet : Building Sequential Stones Vol 1
Ian Boddy : Aurora
Mark Dwane : Paradigm Shift
Waveworld : Structures
Dom F. Scab : Analogical Confessions
Ulrich Snauss : A Strangely Isolated Place
AES Dana : Memory Shell
Saul Stokes : Fields
Zero One : Prototype Two

I don't know any of the contemporary albums, and out of the old ones, I'm only familiar with Tangerine Dream, Steve Roach, Ash Ra Tempel, Vangelis and Klaus Schulze. Are any of these other albums worth checking out? Tonto's Expanding Head Band?

tonto were cool. i dig michael sterns. it's kind of a boring list. the old stuff list. and, yeah, i have no idea about that new stuff. i guess i have to listen to echoes more. there was a thread where we talked about echoes stuff.

Shit, echoes is a reputable taste maker? I just stumbled across their website while trying and failing to come up with a smartassed reply to the 10 essential electronica albums thread.

echoes has been around forever. it probably sells its share of new age stuff. they have always played the dreamier end of krautrock and prog too though. which is always a good thing.
