UK artists who utilised the EP format, both before and after it was made chart ineligible

Indie rockers The Music released chart-ineleigible EPs for their first few singles, and apparently sales would have landed them top 20 easily. Ride released some good EPs. Who used them well? Who was hamstrung when they were made ineligible? Blah blah blah blah...

Oasis' were 4 tracks until they had to be 3 so they now only do 3 tracks. Not including DVD singles...

Belle/Seb had their single release schedule booked way in advance, so carried on with "This is not a rock song" or whatever, with 4 tracks...

There are a few acts releasing stuff without intent on charting. This is somewhat of a sea change. (Arctics last but one single, Oasis next single, et settee)

the bigger question is why does UK music suck so much these days? judging from the press response you'd think there was a massive influx of rather informed groups coming together. instead we have a bunch of derivative half-wit 90s-rock fans masquerading-via-publicist as being fans of whatever early 80s band is in-vogue with the 22-35 year old record-collecting demographic.

Yeah, I was pondering why thesedays bands tend to name their influences as being "bands everyone's heard of"...

Mansun were very much about the EPs, but they did grudgingly cut down to 3 tracks per format when the restrictions came in.

Shoegazing was the most EP-centric movement in the history of Rock!

Two Lone Swordsmen have some great EPs, but I doubt they were ever aiming for the charts. Ditto for Aphex Twin, Autechre, Squarepusher, etc (though both "Come to Daddy" and "Come on My Selector" had videos made, did they ever chart?).

"Come To Daddy" made #36. "Come On My Selector" wasn't a hit.
