versions of songs done on MTV's Unplugged that are superior to the originals

Pearl Jam "Porch" - almost vicious take on what might have otherwise been a throwaway album track, climaxes in Eddie Veddar scrawling "pro-choice" on his arm w/ Sharpee during vigorous improvisation by the rest of the boys.

You know, I ws going to add a Nirvana one, but I think all the versions were better as the originals.

OK, "Where did you sleep last night" is pretty damn good.

But superior? oh damn.

I don't think there's a track on AIC unplugged which is better than its studio equivalent.

I love the Unplugged version of Fall on Me by REM. I don't know if its superior, but it's excellent.

In that same vein is the "lounge" version of Sex Type Thing by STP (in which Weiland says "Hey there! How's your steak?" whilst acoustic guitars play bebop improv).

I miss unplugged as well, but how would they bring it back? Neptunes unplugged? White Stripes unplugged? JoJo unplugged?

Alanis Morissette sounded way better unplugged, as did Shakira (but that was in her spanish-only, rockier days)

OK, "Where did you sleep last night" is pretty damn good.

But superior? oh damn.

But to which original? Lead Belly? Lanegan?

The 10,000 Maniacs unplugged of "What's the Matter Here?" I think is better.

xpost well, Leadbelly, naturally.

Add "The Four Pennies" to your list, but not to say "Better"...

I would have said Bryan Adams' "Summer of 69" if it didn't have the full band + drums crashing in halfway through.

I'm gonna have to go with "Like A Hurricane."

"Where Did You Sleep Last Night" is also noteworthy just because it's so saturated with soul, it's heartbreaking.
